I played GW1 for 7 years with a few multi-month breaks and I always enjoyed it. I do not believe that GW2 will last as long due to some design issues, but you never know. The best part about non-subscription games is that you can always go back to it. I played Diablo 3 for a few months while waiting for GW2 to be released and initially enjoyed it, then got to the point that I hated it and flamed its failing on forums. I played some the other day and enjoyed it again. Hopefully GW2 will be resilient enough to be fun after taking some time off from it.
What are you basing your assumption that GW2 is dying now on? They haven't released any player numbers on how many players are currently playing. The only thing they have released was a month or so ago saying since launch they had sold an additional 1 million copys. (2 mil at launch and another 1 mil since) Even if half the player base 100% quit, there would still be more than enough players keep the game alive.

Please don't make unsupported claims that the game is dying. If you have some insider information do share otherwise you are just creating untrue rumors.

I base my comment on the number of people I see playing the game in PVE zones when I sign on. I've been working on world completion on my main and have done entire zones and only seen one or two people playing. In a MMO where you need a community to beat some events this is not promising. Granted some zones may be full of people, but I am basing it off what I have seen.

Basing it on what you see during your play time is a fools assumption. Here are a few basic reasons why:

    1) You aren't going to every zone and seeing who's where everyday.

    2) Not everyone plays the same times as you.

    3) Some servers are not strong in PvE, but mostly WvW or sPvP, the opposite is also true.

    4) Just because you don't see people doesn't mean they aren't there. Ever think other people are doing the exact same thing as you, getting map completion and are just 1 or 2 steps ahead of you where you can't see them? There could be 100 people around the corner and you would never know.

The game is not dying so stop spreading rumors. I have lots of alts and I switch between toons depending on my mood. Very rarely do I go through a zone with few people. Alot of times I don't see any of these people until a group event comes up and then there are 30 of us taking down a champ.

Just to add a few things to Zorac's comments.

Culling will prevent you from seeing people outside of a certain distance from you. This makes the world seem empty at times.

On events, Just mention a group event is going on in /map chat and link a waypoint. Players will come. Linking the waypoint is important. Not everyone knows where every event is on a map.

Are there less players than at release? Absolutely!

Are all zones dead? Not quite.

But some could definitely need more incentive to go there (Especially mid lvl zones in my experience) High lvl characters are in the high lvl areas (Orr especially), because it's more rewarding to play there from a money perspective (higher lvl ressources sell for more, you loot more, etc.). And low lvl areas are also well populated, as every now and then someone will get bored with their mains and start a new one, but few of those seem to make it to midlvls. Therefore, theses areas are more desertet, imo.

But other than Orr events, where some are undoable with too few players, I've rarely failed an event due to too little players lately. You just need to advertise the event a bit, if no one is around, just like Alexanian said.

How do you know there are less players than at release? Anet has reported release sales were 2 mil copys of the game, and they've sold 1 mil since then. Even if half the people that started at released quit with 1 mil more we would still be the same.

I'm sure a lot of people have quit the game. But I wouldn't put that number at 50% maybe 20-30% of people at release have stopped playing, but even this is a guess as is everything but what Anet has said which is 3 mil copys have sold (that was in Dec? I think)

The game can at times feel less alive than it did at release because at release everyone was crammed into the start zones and were spreading out together. Now people are spread out, they do the higher lvl zones unless they are lvling an alt or a new player. Just because you don't get kicked to overflow server when you are in a zone now doesn't mean the game is any less alive than it was at launch.

I found my tourniquet in spvp. By no means is the game dying though.
