Thread: Frustration with Ascended Gear / Updates

    I think that all sorts of gameplay should be (approximately) equally important in GW 2. If I recall correctly, this was how it was advertised. But now the PVErs have had two months time to get whatever they could get in that time out of FotM. Hardcore players will have (nearly) all that has been available. People who didn't focus on FotM will have only fractal lvl 7, like you, Vayne, or even less. And they are likely to have gained no ascended gear.

    During this timeperiod a WvWer, who refused to be forced into a gameplay that he didn't like, did WvW and obviously gained badges. How many, will depend on how hardcore said player is (and drop luck of course, but that's also true for FotM (Plus, support classes are at a disadvantage at obtaining WvW badges in relation to (AoE)DDs)) .

    As you can see by above statements by both Bokiz and me, there's also a very large discrepancy in how many badges we've achieved. I'm not asking for me, to get all ascended gear for free (accurately it would not be for free, because I "wasted" as much time of my life for obtaining them, as any FotM player did (if the currency would be relatively equal regarding time/profit, which should of course be the fact)) and probably the time/profit equation of FotM is so fucked up that even Bokiz with his 2500 badges isn't entitled to one single piece of ascended gear, but he and I should at least have gotten a little closer to that goal.

    Having to start from scratch with an all new currency is nothing more than a kick in the nuts. We should at least get some kind of reward for the time we spent in the game, just like the FotM grinders do/did. And if that's not ascended gear, then put something in that's equally powerful but without the infusions and thus only viable in WvW. There simply has to be something worthwile to spend the badges on. Because naturally, I get more and more of them and still have the same amount of things to buy (or not to buy, as it were) as in week one of the game.

    Same thing goes for karma. I have so much karma and soooo effing little to spend it on...I could buy the whole sets twice or thrice by now (which I actually did partly, because I screwed up the first time around ). Why aren't there weapons or jewelery for karma?

    Right now you have two currencies in the game that are pretty useless to everybody who has been lvl 80 for longer than a day. And now they are introducing a third currency....Why not put these other ones to better use?

    Not that I'm entirely dissatisfied with the new stuff. That's at least one step into the right direction, because now I will finally have any means to obtain ascended gear, however long it may take for me via dailies. But that the WvW players (for whom it is also probably the hardest to finish the daily, if you want to WvW and not run around, gather nodes and farm different kinds of mobs...) seem to get the shaft again, is really disheartening.

    I was under the impression that anet was revamping the dailies with more requirements to them than what is needed to complete.

    Example

    Daily quest has:
    Kill 10 dolyaks
    Play 5 spvp games
    farm 10 mithril
    Complete 3 jumping puzzles
    Kill 5 players in wvw

    For this example, you only need to complete 3 out of the 5 things listed to complete the daily.

    This would allow players to do dailies around the things they like to do, rather then things they hate. This would fit into anets "Play the way you want to play" mission statement.

    Did I missunderstand the whole new daily/monthly explaination?

    Oh, I did not know this. If they are going to have WvW specific dailies, then that will at least be something. I'd still MUCH MUCH prefer that my badges weren't next to worthless (200 superior arrow carts coming right up) but at least I won't have to PVE as much.

    You are assuming that the pve'ers all do dungeons. We dont all like or even do any of them. Wouldnt it be just as unfair to the pve'ers who dont do dungeon to give wvw'ers free loot?

    The only true winners were the dungeon lovers. And anet isnt going to take there stuff away. Especially since ascended was designed for that dungeon specifically.

    The new currency is a compromise and long term fix so all walks of life can benefit.

    Well if you get it done fast its less painful right....

    You don't enjoy someparts of it, other don't enjoy other parts of it. Sadly no game can satisfy everyone all the time. I think there should be seperate ways to get the currency for each type of game play, sPvP, World PvE, Dungeons, WvW. Each should have their own which if you did them all you could get the gear faster, but if you just do what you like it takes longer. They are going for the one shoe fits all approach instead because its easier on the programing.

    Boks, My example was just my interpretation. I dont have the exact examples from anet. But that was my general understanding.

    This fits right in with their new do dailies how you want to do them approach, and honestly if it pans out the way i think it will, everyone should be happy. except wvw'er, who I agree, kinda got left out on this last run. But going forward this should accomodate them

    No that part I get, it's the "more options" part I didn't know about. We'll see how its implemented, if I can get enough WvW specific things to chose so I minimize my PVEing...I'll settle for it because raging against the dying of the light, though poetic, is usually futile.

    Sure, but I still think they could've done it differently, through karma probably. Still not WvW specific, although this is probably the way to get karma the fastest. They would just have needed to adjust eh cost. Now an exotic armour piece costs 42k if I'm correct. A piece of ascended gear could've sold for 500k. So it would still not be too easy to acquire, as that amount of karma needs a while to build up, but still everybody would have been able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

    But the compromise they've put forward now, is ok with me. Nevertheless, I feel that there needs to be something done about the badges. Maybe you should be able to trade them at an infavourable rate against this new currency. But wasting them on siege is not really good for me, because I can get the siege I need for coin and I make more coin than I need for siege. Plus, I have nothing to save my coin for, thus making the badges an inferiour choice when it comes to buying siege. (I'm still holding my hopes high that someday there'll be something valuable available for badges. And then I'll be all like :"Muahahahaha, excellent!")

    Yeah my reponse was a little late. I had it all typed up, but I'm at work and didn't post it for like 15 mins cause uh, well had to work and when I did, oh look I'm a little behind the times.
