ArenaNet: New Community Manager: Rubi Bayer (RB2) (2012-02-02)

I already suspected this when Massively recently announced that they were looking for a new Guild Wars columnist to replace die-hard Guild Wars fan Rubi Bayer, but now Martin Kerstein has confirmed it on Twitter:

It is my pleasure to announce that @Rubi_ Bayer will be joining the ArenaNet Community Team on Monday. Give her a warm welcome! ~MK
    He adds:
To not confuse Regina and Rubi, Rubi will be signing her tweets with ~RB2! ~MK
Congrats and welcome to Rubi for being recruited by ArenaNet... I know that must be a dream come true for her!

Also new, at the European office, are community managers Aidan Taylor & Melanie Corolleur:

Our European Community Managers, Aidan Taylor & Melanie Corolleur will be tweeting during EU hours. Welcome, ~AT and ~MC! ~RB
Congrats and welcome to Aidan and Melanie as well!

Cool, Rubi is awesome - passionate about GW2, but not a fanboy (fangirl?). I know her mostly from gamebreaker.tv.

See I...have kind of the opposite impression of Rubi, lol. Some of her blog posts...meh. You could say it's sour grapes, and you'd probably be partly right, lol, but I dunno. I was never as crazy about her Flameseeker Chronicles as a lot of people seemed to be.

I find her enthusiasm to be fun. I haven't read many of her articles, but I've seen/heard her on Guildcast. Good for her.

I guess I'm just very picky about what I read, and she didn't manage to entertain me OR, often, inform me of the things I'd like to know -- such as when she wrote about the Catacombs. She actually got the play the damn thing and there was almost no real information in her entire post, just how nostalgic it made her. She also does things like upload a bunch of screenshots of the same material, with only infinitesimal changes to the frame. Seriously, we didn't need to see the picture of that same door at 5, 6 and 7 feet away.

Then again, I bashed the novels, too, so take my criticism for what it's worth. Growing up on works like Bram Stoker's Dracula, I set my standards pretty damn high when I read.

I would not want her job. Dealing with the public would give me stomach ulcers. Good luck to all the community managers, old and new. I appreciate what they do, but I do not envy them.

That I can certainly agree with.

There will always be people who dislike what Rubi did for Massively... just like there are people who dislike what Regina does outside of ArenaNet. But imho her appearances on the various podcasts and her articles on Massively definitely helped to keep GW2 in the public eye, especially for those less familiar with the material.

Btw, Martin has stated that we will get more details on exactly what her job at ArenaNet will be once she has started working (ie. next week).

I have no clue who this Rubi is, but with a name like Rubi...how can you go wrong?

You have no idea who Rubi is? Now there's one I didn't expect from you.

Hurry and go read this interview with her. And you may want to watch a recent gamebreaker tv video - she was(?) a regular (can I say resident?) attendant on Guildcast
