Help me choose a main

The classes I am looking at are:

Warrior
Ranger
Engineer
Elementalist
Guardian (Probably not idk)

I mainly play pve and most likely solo, I like to get damage/dps/dot and don't really care too much for support.
Just want a fun character that gets good dps and is fun to play and not OVERLY squishy. (some squishiness allowed)

My short answer - coz I'm biased and have an 80 ranger - is er... ranger.

But really, why not give them all a go - you have five slots after all - and see what agrees with you?

Any of the professions you've listed can solo, but you'll probably find the elementalist more challenging than the others. Warriors can be squishy in this game depending on how you spec. Guardian can solo very effectively, but I'd say ranger or engie for a soloable main.

Any of those classes can be squishy or tanky have great survivablity, be a glass cannon or be balanced. It all depends on how you spec. As others have said try them all, just going by someone elses advice won't mean you will like a toon or not. Also it very easy to change specs either with different weapons or resetting traits. The same class with different weapons will play differently sometimes a great deal different, sometimes only slightly. Like a staff ele vs a dagger 2x ele, they play completly different. Try out the different weapon combos, even when I have an idea of what I want I still try out all the weapons possible on a new toon just to make sure there isn't something I like better.

Have fun and remember the only wrong way to play is the way that you don't have any fun.

The only class worth playing right now if you want to get to do dungeons etc etc is Warrior, seems some of the devs love warriors. They are the priviliged class.

I mean I can see that some classes are more advantageous in dungeons, this will always be the case in this kind of game. But I think saying that one needs to go one class or else he won't have any chance of getting a group is just untrue.

Warriors are fine for general PVE. Everything is fine for general PVE. (imo) You can solo easily with warrior but I found it boring. (stopped at lvl 7, sad I know) My ele is at 80 and I can solo really well and that's a class many people thinik is hard to solo with. My mesmer is being leveled right now and is only at 15 but I havent had any trouble at lvl appropriate content yet.

For upper level solo'ing I like the Ranger because the pet makes a good meat shield and holds enemy aggro allowing you time to kill them or move away and heal. I have a level 80 Warrior and Ele also and both are fun to play, but depending on where you play you will have enemies constantly in your face which isn't too bad for a Warrior, but stinks for an Ele.
