I don't know how anyone would know they are on the wrong server right now anyway. There was so much server jumping going on that it would be impossible to know who's on your server and who isn't. Population is only really one factor in determining whether or not you are on the "right" server.

My recommendation would be to cut your losses and pay the transfer fee if you really want to leave. As is, there is plenty for you to do on a medium server if you stay. But this discussion really has no more road.
This makes no sense. You can guest to the same server as many times you like thus allowing you to "play" on that server indefinitely. You could go back into the server every single time you log in and it would be just like playing on your server, except for WvW.Guesting only remains in effect until you log out, so no use what so ever to me,
my whole point of changing to a higher pop server is more ppl to play with.

Most games will let you have characters on more than one server, i know they're doing it to rake in the cash but it has the opposite effect with me.
If i can make more characters on multiple servers i'll spend cash on gems to unlock bag slots/in game gold, ETC:
all i'll end up doing is not playing it anymore, and i don't want to,
i logged in the other day and didn't see anyone for 80 mins and even longer before anyone spoke on chat.

The EU thing is unfortunate if you are a North American player, but MMO is the type of game where you make a mistake it can't always be undone. For example, if I spend 40,000+ karma on an item and I don't quite like it. I shouldn't be able to get a refund. I have to make the best of the situation. You can transfer off if you need to or try to rope more friends in to play with you. If things seem dead, find yourself a guild. I am on Tarnished Coast which is almost always full, and I never group with people from the server. I haven't even had to ask guildies to run with me. It is easy to reach out to others.

No there have been no server merges.
What did happen was that the much awaited feature of guesting was finally introduced. The game was supposed to launch with it.
For a while they had free daily transfers but that messed a lot with WvW, so they changed it to free weekly transfers. When they finally announced guesting, several weeks ago, they said the free transfers would come to and end. If you want to transfer servers now, you have to pay with gems (bought with either real life currency or in game gold).
The cost for transfer depends on the server you want to transfer to. It's cheaper to transfer to lower population servers than high or very high population servers.
Why do people whine about stuff?
Don't like your server? Pay the fee and change servers!
