Thread: Want to improve my desktop

  1. #11
My old monitor broke because it was being moved so now I'm using like a really old compaq monitor. I think I'm going to just save up instead of trying to rush and have everything as soon as possible. I can wait a bit longer. :3

    Can save around $500 xD

    Graphics card: this or this

    Power Supply: Here

Will probably need a cpu cooler? Don't know if these are the right ones.

    And monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236079

Think I got everything I know I have a lot of room in my case so hopefully stuff will fit xD.
Thank you very much you two. Awesome Thanks lol

Better PSU $39 or 29 if you get the rebate.

The GTX560 takes 2 power connectors the PSU you picked only has one.
This if from the 7850 details.

I think the 2 6pin connectors in the 7850 details are wrong as the picture just shows 1
You are skimping on the wrong part of the pc with the cx430.

    Newegg Link to your PSU

This PSU would work, notice the 80 PLUS certification Also, it's cheap

If this is pushing you overbudget, just buy a monitor later.
Again just bad advice lets see you have a i5 3570k and a 7870 video card the FX 6100 and 7850 card will use about the same watts I guess you have a 430 Watt PSU in your PC.

First: To the OP... The 7850 is the better card out of the choices. The coolermaster that is on sale will be the one to go with. (warning that cooler is tall) Make sure you have enough clearance in your case by taking some measurements.

Either the PSU I recommended or the one Zerk rec'd is fine. He will contradict everything I say in nearly every post so I hope the information has not come off as confusing.

To Zerk: Still being a douche I see.
Do you just pull shit out of your ass? You dispute everything I say with absolutely no backing. Where you getting this info? Don't tell me bad advice when you took no time to add up his TDP numbers.

What is in my computer case is 100% irrelevant to what he needs to get his running. The screen shot here expects his setup to consume 315W w/ no OC. They rec a 350W PSU, and I had that covered with 430. Go **** yourself.

    You guys....

    Sorry.

Both of you are very helpful. I am very confused now but I'll get it xD Just want to know will more watts be better or if I have to much will it effect something in someway? Probably the reason I need a cooler

I'll get the 7850 card and both the coolers are on sale but I'm going to guess you are talking about THIS one.

In this case more may not be better. A more powerful PSU is going to be larger and require more cooling than one the size you need. However, a more powerful PSU also gives you the flexablity for future upgrades, like a 2nd hd or a 2nd disc drive. There isn't any great harm in having a too large of PSU as long as your pc is well cooled other than your monthly electric bill being higher. If you trip the breaker in your building you might want to down grade.

Zorac was pretty correct. Only a very "done-up" PC pulls a lot of wattage (500+). The point Zerk was trying to get across was that AMD chips are not very power efficient, in comparison the current Intel. The 7850 card you are hopefully about to order is an incredibly efficient performer.

    Order this PSU

Use this website to find the best prices

My suggestion about overclocking will a little draw more power, and my most recent PSU link will have you well covered. Buying that Coolermaster cooler will require you to remove, what I assume is the stock AMD heatsink, the cooler from your chip and seat this new one. If you are uncomfortable doing this or unable to get help don't order it.

The coolermaster 212 is known to bump into RAM sticks or be too large for certain cases. I'll take a picture of mine to give you a frame of reference shortly. You want to be sure your case can accomodate it, or I will have to help you search for a better choice.

    @Izzy. Sorry about that

hmm should I upgrade my CPU as well? Going to throw my budget out the window for now. I don't really have any outstanding bills to pay and taxes are coming soon. I'd like to not go overboard though. I'll go with the 7850 card and possibly (maybe) upgrade my CPU if you guys have any suggestions? That means I might need a different Power supply right?

Nah, man save it for the monitor or something. Your processor is not bad at all, but to be honest this game is brutal on processors. You've already been playing the game with no graphics card so nothing you have mentioned in this thread leads me to believe it would be worth it for you to throw away your processor. If you would like to replace it, you want to get an FX-8xxx series chip.

You will enjoy the bump you get from the graphics card and a 1080p monitor big time. You seem to be a novice but if you do some reading Check out an overclocking forum I am confident you can overclock your CPU and your 7850 enough to really see an appreciable difference.

The situations where this game really tears into your processing power is WvW and large World Events. Once there are 50 plus other players on your screen, you will get a big spike of frame loss. I run with a number of guildies that this happens to all the time. GW2 isn't the only game out there. If you end up desiring a better processor later, its only 4 screws and some thermal paste to make the changes.

    edit:

Photos I promised. The fan on the coolermaster is 12cm. I have a larger motherboard that you, so be sure you won't have problems with the heat pipes bumping into anything in your case. My case is a HAF 912.
