My take on the classes of GW2

Because everyone is on the edge of their seat dying to hear my opinion, here's what I think of each class.

Ranger: Probably the best class for new players. Fun and easy right off the bat. Just avoid the longbow because it's dumb.

Elementalist: Overpowered, your dps is so high that nothing has a chance to kill you. Whatever weapon you choose to use, fire burns hard. Air is pretty cool, water and earth could use some work.

Warrior: The underdeveloped class. I like my warrior, but it isn't as fun or as powerful as everything else. You need too much toughness to be viable in dungeons.

Engineer: A great class for new players and veterans alike. It seems that ANet put a lot of TLC into them because they are so well-rounded and the overall engineer experience is varied and interesting.

Guardian: Fun to play and you never die. Oddly you start with a mace and shield and that turns out to be the LEAST interesting weapon choice for the class.

Mesmer: delayed gratification. A powerful, fun, and well rounded class, but only to those willing to wait for the reward. For the first 50 or so levels it can be a bit hard to really see the beauty of playing a mesmer.

Necromancer: It's a fun class, but doesn't really feel like a necromancer. Instead of running with zombies and skeletons made by controlling felled foes, you just run around with a bunch of ugly pets.

Thief: a bit like the mesmer in the sense that it takes a while to see how they can be fun. The difference though is not that you have to level past 50 to really work right, but that you have to experiment with a gazillion diferent weapon combinations.

Any comments/opinions? I actually do like hearing others' opinions.

I think the utility of each class and people's views vary GREATLY based on if they play PVE, spvp or WvW. Is this a PVE type analysis?

Ranger/Warrior/Ele in that order are the best. Next Guardian but it is most useful at higher levels

OK I guess we're making random comments with no context. I think Necromancers ARE BY FAR THE BEST EVER and then warriors and mesmers are ok and every other class sucks so bad they should just be deleted!!!

I hate generalizations, they add nothing of value and help noone. For example, in spvp and WvW, if you're running a pet build, you're a bum. If all about area denial, boon corruption and conditions. (golem elite is fine though) Elementalist have high DPS? Really? Their ONE viable build in spvp and WvW is a bunker build with average DPS if might is handled well. etc.

    I'm outtie 3000.

Weapon choices and utlities greatly change the play of every class so its hard to quantify which class is better/worse since no matter what facts you have it all comes down to a matter of opinion. Some classes when you switch weapons up the play style only changes slightly others it changes a great deal. A DD and a staff ele play completly differently for example.

Ranger: Probably the best class for new players. Fun and easy right off the bat.

Agree with this BUT only play to level 30 to get used to the game. Pets in dungeons are terrible, no matter how often you press F3 it will escape the leash and bring aggro and death upon you. My power rating : 6/8.

Elementalist: Disagree not overpowered at all. Just about right. Very nice class to play, most options of any class. Can die alot and easily however. PR : 5/8

Warrior: The underdeveloped class. I like my warrior, but it isn't as fun.

Agree with this, they are bland but they are powerful. PR : 4/8

Engineer: Errr...what?!?!? I assume you were trolling? Worst class in the game, hardly anyone plays them and with good reason. PR : 8/8.

Guardian: Fun to play and you never die.

Agree with all this. A guardian is a welcome addition to the party. 2 in a party of 5 can stop anyone dieing fullstop. PR : 3/8.

Mesmer: A powerful, fun, and well rounded class.

Agree, some unique abilities, stealth make this a fantastic class. PR : 2/8.

Necromancer: Doesn't really feel like a necromancer.

Agree with this. In my opinion its the WORST take on a necromancer in any RPG I have ever played, its awful. Only 1 half-decent build, well necro. Boring, uninspiring, just avoid. PR : 7/8.

Thief: This class has the wrong name. It should be called Assassin. Alot of the most skillful players play thiefs and 8/10 vids on youtube feature thiefs. Lots of stealth means your near unkillable and can choose your aggro. Also massive, quick damage makes you deadly. It really is a assassin. PR : 1/8.

In this forum, no matter what you say you're going to piss off someone. I said something particular about each class. It's all PvE and maybe I should have specified that. But I'm just summing up my thoughts briefly instead of doing the wall-of-text thing a lot of people do on the Internet.

I really like the necromancer, even though it's not like necros from other games.

Also with a glass cannon Thief hitting 3 times with daggers can cause 25000 dps? This came up in WvWvW when my ranger (lvl 80) with 17000 health points was assassinated by a Thief just striking the ranger twice with daggers using stealth. At the time my ranger was full exotic. Another question I like to ask is does 16000 dps=16000 health points?
It was possible (and still might be) that backstaf thiefs that were completely glass cannon could down other glass cannon players with only a few strikes and sometimes before they came out of stealth at all. Anybody that is evern remotely decent will have toughness and vitality enough and not be glass cannon if they're running around solo. If you're part of a group, you're supposed to count on your teamates to take out the thief.

If there was no cullin in WvW, the thief would not be an OP class at all. Right now, a well played thief is not catchable....luckily, only very few players are skilled with their thief because they never had to learn how due to the stealth/culling mechanic and how many bad players there are to gank. I can count on one hand how many times I've lost to a thief 1on1 and that's with the culling giving them a very large advantage...if culling is ever fixed, I dare say thiefs will need a buff imo. And I've fought hundreds of thiefs...you just have to know how to counter them.

I'm not pissed off...I just dislike misinformation and baseless psots existing. Like mayito stating x/y/z are the best classes. Which is ridiculous. Warriors are good in PVE...they're the 5th (at best) most usefull class in spvp. Just about the same in WvW. Or ranger over mesmer in pvp/wvw, Ele and mesmer may be so so in PVE...they're the meta of WvW...pretty much only classes that have to be specifically accounted for. (ele for swirling winds, mesmers for portal) So had your posts said - this is for PVE from the start, I wouldn't even have posted in here. But without that in the OP, your "guide" seems comprehensive and that might give some new players bad information.

A couple of weeks before another player backed up pretty much what you said. He was CD then but subsequently he moved to Kaineng...
