The jewelry required 25 ectoplasm and 25 ruby orbs. Oh, and a crapload of orichalcum ingots. Then there were the weapons. And I have been playing the game since beta, right? I had 2 ectoplasm left. They go for 40 silver a piece on the trading post. Do the math and you'll end up paying between 25-30 gold just for the ectoplasm needed to gear one character (that's not counting the T6 fine materials you'll need). And I have 7 characters who are all 80 and they need to be geared, too. Eventually. I guess. It boggles my mind how some people have said that getting exotics is cheap on the auction house. It is not. No matter how you slice it, you'll either grind for money, or grind for mats. And this is just gearing up in exotics. Forget legendary weapons, because I will never have one.
I have exotics on 4 level 80s. I've not spent any gold on them. Doing dailies and monthlies have given me enough karma to get the armor from the vendors in the Orrian temples. It's a lot of karma. It's like 42,000 per piece. but since you get 7,000 with a karma booster for each of the jugs and you get a jug a day and ten for the monthly...well it's a no brainer.

You don't need to spend gold or grind to gear up. Unless you call half an hour dailies grinding.

Impressive. I only have 3 level 80 toons and each has at least one set of exotic armor (my main has 3 sets). The easiest way to get exotic armor is to use karma for it. Do daily achievements and save up your jugs of liquid karma. When you have 40 or so pop a karma booster (+50% karma), a guild upgrade for another 10% and a banner for 5% (there is also a +karma food). This way you can get >252k karma needed for a full set of exotic armor from the temples in Orr. Unfortunately their stats are not the best (power/vit/toughness or precision/vit/condit damage and there are some healing options too), but it will get you into exotics. Also salvage unused lvl 70+ rares using a black lion salvage kit to get the best chance of getting ectos.

    VAYNE!!

And indeed the karma temple armors in orr are great. I did this for my guardian, but my other 2 lvl 80s I got gear off the TP. But I hardly grinded for the gold to buy them. I play usually for about 4 hours and despite spending 2 gold a night (I limit myself to this in WvW for upgrades to towers and keeps) I am still bringing in the money. I'm trying to get the achivement for 200 gold in the bank, I'm at 164 now and I usually add a gold or two a night despite my spendings.

Running explorable dungeons before your level 80 will net you some serious exotics ready and waiting for your hero to become lvl 80. No gold required.

Personally I hate nerfs. If some classes are too overpowered then other classes should be buffed to bring them up to their level; not bring them down. I am tired of going backwards because of the nerf hammer. They tend to make the game less and less fun with each patch. Seems they are going the wrong way.
