Honestly though, I have a hard time believing your story, What was your character's name that the items were sent too?

I don't know how many hours you had invested in that account but worst case scenario is you pay another $45-60 and get a new copy. Still, try support again and see if they will hear your case.

I got a mail with items in it from a random player so I thought okay I'll have them.

So the person misstyped and sent you the items instead of their desired recipent, and rather than send them back or let them know "wrong person" you decided to keep them.
In my books thats stealing, and as small/ one time as it is the ban is justified.

Sounds like this guy used one character on his account to steal some stuff or violate TOS in some way. He then sent the stolen items to another character on his account and didn't think that ANet would ever find out.

Well, they did. The only possible excuse you could have is that your account was hacked. But, why would someone go through the trouble of hacking your account to just send stolen items back to another one of your characters.

Well, I think it depends on what items were sent. If it was a precursor he should have known better, but I've had random people send me ore and all sorts of things just because they felt like it.
