Thread: Official Guild Wars 2 Pre-Purchase Retailers List

posted 45 min ago on Best Buy forums:

    Hello all,

I understand there has been some conflicting information out there regarding what exactly we are offering in terms of Guild Wars 2 so I will do my best to clear that up.

We will be/are offering pre-orders for the physical versions of Guild Wars 2 without any promotions attached to them. You can pre-order them on BestBuy.com or in our stores. The physical standard edition pre-order is currently available and the physical Collector's Edition pre-order will be available on Friday, April 13th.

In addition, we will in fact be offering pre-purchase for the digital versions of Guild Wars 2, which is a correction to my previous post. Those will be available on BestBuy.com soon. Pre-purchasers will receive a single code for the Beta access, 3 day headstart access, and digital bonus content to be redeemed on the Guild Wars 2 website (more detailed instructions provided upon purchase).

I think some of the confusion may be coming from the terms pre-purchase vs. pre-order, as they mean different things. Pre-purchase is paying in full for the game before it releases. Pre-order is putting some form of collateral down, whether it is a credit card linked to a BestBuy.com order or $5 down on an in-store pre-order, to secure your copy when the game releases, at which point you make good on full amount of the game.

    Guild Wars 2 on BestBuy.com

I apologize for the confusion and previous misinformation. I hope this helps you to better plan out your Guild Wars 2 release experience!

Any news about Tesco selling it for the UK? It's £90 for the Standard Edition. Tha hell?

Hi Connorrr, welcome to this forum. Tesco is not one of the retailers on the list of official pre-purchase partners (see OP) although I have seen that they claim to offer pre-purchasing. Given how often even the information changes on some of the retailers that are on the list, I wouldn't risk it. Besides, £90 for the SE sounds ridiculous.
If you want the standard edition, I recommend Zavvi/The Hut or Play.com, if you want the CE, then Zavvi/The Hut.

Pre-purchase is starting to seem like a huge scam.

I've pre-purchased from two places in Canada for the CE, EB Games and NCIX. Both have taken my money. Neither has given a pre-purchase package or any code.

So far I'm out over $300 with nothing to show for it except receipts and a lighter wallet.

A scam on whose part? I'm in Australia and we finally got our CE prepurchase codes in on the mainland...some people have gotten them. I'm down in Tasmania and I haven't gotten my code yet but I expect to get it today or tomorrow.

All you get...at this time...is a code that will allow you to play in the betas and get the 3 day headstart when the game releases. The box and all will be available closer to launch date.

I went into the transaction knowing all I was getting right now was a code, though. It's not a scam...it's a way for the company to get a bit of income after five years with minimal income, because playing 200 people is probably fairly costly. But the game will be out and you'll get your merchandise...find out from the stores when the code will be available...just give them a call. Because most of these companies employees seem to know very little, talk to the manager.

    I'm sure it'll be fine.

My experiance with the pre-purchase was fairly clean. With this said, it was in the US at a retail GameStop. This may not help you though.

    - Code was on reciept
    - Went to register.guildwars2.com and put in code
    - Got email confermation that I was registered
    - Sit and wait

Come release of the game, I will have to return to the retail store and get another code and input it into the game within 5 days of game's release. When I return to get this code, I will get all of the physical items in the CE.

I also want to note that while I was typing this, I went to verify the register url and I see it is down. This may be due to them not taking more registrations at this time for the beta. I got the following information from their facebook posts last week:

Pre-purchase will run up until shortly before launch. However, we also want to maintain a high quality of service for those who have pre-purchased and are participating in the Beta Weekend Events.

With that in mind, if we max out our beta server capacity, we may *temporarily* make pre-purchase unavailable until we can bring more capacity online. Bottom line is if you want to participate in the Beta Weekend Events, don’t wait.
I think that covers much of the info for North America users. I tried to copy over what I had found out so far. One could check out the following thread on my guild's forum if you need more of the gritty details about what I have come across for prepurchase (http://defendersoftherealm.guildlaun...188&gid=232733).

I went back to check on this to see if they posted a better page explaining the situation. I have found the site is now back up. So don't worry. At this time, one should still be able to register their beta key.

Small update for people in the UK: Added Amazon.co.uk (standard edition) and Barkman.com (SE + CE) to the pre-purchasers list after a twitter update from ArenaNet.

    Hello all!

I was wondering if someone can help me. I have ordered the Pre-Purchase version of GW2 from Play.com (The UK version) ... where do I get the code to allow me into the beta and get the 3 day head start etc?

    Many thanks,

    Plod.

Hi Plod, welcome to this forum. In Europe, the code will be inside the (physical) pre-purchase box that they will ship to you. It's a dvd-sized box that only contains a piece of paper (no actual dvd): on that piece of paper will be the registration code, and instructions on how to use it. That registration code will enable you to create an account, which will give you access to all the beta event weekends, the 3-day headstart, and the game itself upon release.
