Talking Will GW2 work on this PC?

My cousin really wants to get GW2 when it comes out, but we're not sure if his PC is good enough. As I'm not that good with system requirements, I was wondering if you guys could tell me if these specs are good enough.

    CPU - Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00GHz

Video Card - GeForce 8400 GS

We know that all the other specs are fine for the game, but aren't too sure about these ones.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hi trumper, welcome to this forum. See our Can You Run GW2 thread... there is a very useful link in there to a tool that will test your PC and tell you if it's suitable for Guild Wars 2, and if not, which components should be replaced. I recommend that your cousin runs that on his PC. But from what I can tell based on these 2 specs, he should be able to run the game... though he may need to run it at lowest settings.

(btw, moved this thread to our Hardware section)

Thanks, when we tried it it said that everything was OK except from the video card. However, it seems to say that the card he has would work, as the minimum features of his card were better than the required ones.

    Required You Have
    Pixel Shader version 3.0 4.0
    Vertex Shader version 3.0 4.0
Dedicated Video RAM 256 MB 51

Do people think this would work as he can't afford a new card.

    Thanks.

Most likely not. The minimum required Video card for the Geforce series is the 7800, you have the 8400. You may have enough V-ram but that doesn't necessarily mean you have the card to run it unfortunately.

by any chance he decides to buy a new video card, what would be his price range? Maybe we can help him find an affordable card that would fit with his system.

Thanks for all the quick replies, we have been researching video cards and have found an affordable one that we think is good enough but would like to be sure. It is the GeForce GTX 550 Ti and it seems OK but I don't really understand this sort of thing.

This is a great forum and thanks again for the quick and excellent answers.

Price range between £80-£130, might be able to go higher if needed but that would be the sort of price we are looking for.

Just found this one, the GeForce GTX 560 Ti, which is a little more expensive but I'd like to know how much better it is than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. Thanks a Million.

No problem trumper40, and the 560 Ti is much faster than the 550ti and you will be able to max Gw2, possibly mid-high with the 550Ti.

Although you will need a decent 550w PSU to run this Video card, and at least a quad core Processor, otherwise it wouldn't run well. If you stick with the current Cpu that you have you should be able to run the GTX 550 ti fine.

So if I buy the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, I won't have to buy anything else for the PC, but if I buy the GeForce GTX 560 Ti I will? Do you know how much the extras for the GeForce GTX 560 Ti would cost? Thanks, this such a helpful and friendly forum, gonna reccomend it to everybody.

    1. If you bought the 550Ti you should be fine with the CPU you have, although what PSU do you currently have?

    2. If you bought the 560ti on the other hand, you'll need a 550w PSU and a Nice Quad core CPU

also, what motherboard do you currently own?

I'm pretty sure the motherboard is a G41M-Combo. I'm not too sure about the PSU but from what I gather it is a 230V.
    Does that make sense?

Thanks so much Malcolm for all your help, really appreciate it.

    Yup No problem

Sounds like your motherboard will be able to support the card, although do you know the exact wattage of your PSU?
