Guild Wars 2 Better than World of WarCraft?

OK I think the answer is going to be pretty obvious around here but the article title made me smile.

    Guild Wars 2 > WoW?

During the Gamescom Guild Wars2 demo, one thing become very clear:
This is not a normal MMORPG.

Traditional MMORPGs require the player to stand in one place and continue hitting the mobs until they die. Guild Wars 2 takes a different approach, playing more like an action RPG than an MMO. Players can cast spells, attack or shoot while dodging incoming attacks. The fluid combat system is one of the groundbreaking game mechanics that Guild Wars 2 showed during Gamescom.

Guild Wars 2 also has dynamic events. Some of your actions may impact all of the players that are playing Guild Wars 2. Leave a village that is under attack, and the next time you pass by there might only be ruins where the village used to be. Unlike World of WarCraft or many other MMOs where there is only one storyline to follow, the story in Guild Wars 2 evolves around the players, and each race and character will have different stories.

The graphics in Guild Wars 2 are eye-popping. This game makes other MMOs look ridiculous. You can directly compare this game’s graphics with some of this generation’s single player RPG, such as Fable 2, or Too Human. The game simply looks amazing. Even with the graphics looking insane, Guild Wars 2 still features massive boss fight, with building size dragon and 40+ player raids.

However, the question remains: Can Guild Wars 2 be the real WoW-Killer?
No, I don’t think that is realistic. Even without a subscription fee, it’s still going to be hard for Guild Wars 2 to be a WoW-Killer. With 11 million+ users around the world, World of WarCraft is a goliath institution. Also, many WoW players’ computers can handle WoW, but not other high-end PC games, and possibly not Guild Wars 2. Nevertheless, Guild Wars 2 can definitely take a huge chunk of market away from WoW with the correct marketing strategy. I believe the main reason ArenaNet has not announced a release date for Guild Wars 2 is to make sure the game does not release during the same time frame as the new WoW Expansion: Cataclysm.

Will this MMO finally be the one to really challenge WoW?
    Only time will tell.

well see i hate WOW played it and hated it multiple different things i didn't like. that being said WOW Cataclysm is well a bit of a pain they went towards GW and are adding more lore and customization and other stuff that makes it appealing, i guess i have no intrest in playing or paying but i do think it is an important thing to note that WOW is going towards GW.

I believe that when Guild Wars 2 comes out and more gameplay of the finished game appears around the web more WOW players might turn in Anet's direction, as you say that Blizz is adding more lore to Cata, I think it may be to late, they already altered Warcraft lore so much with the previous expansions I "fear" that they are going into a dead end on WOW.
Imo Guild Wars has always been the Wow-Killer, the gameplay is alot more fun, it's visually better, and they stick to a story, even though in Guild Wars 2, we can have our own story while working towards the main goal.

there has not been 1 game that has been able to beat wow, but the fact that GW 2 will not be pay to play is why i think it might just do it

Well in my opinion, Guild Wars 2 will not be the WoW - killer. Because there so much to do in that game, i mean i have played it. And Blizzard worked a lot on premise of quantity over quality, but even though it is like that. It is hard to believe to some of the most WoW addicted will just change after investing so many time/money. So many of these hardcore WoW players are kids that do not know much about what is an MMORPG, probably most of them started in the MMO genre with WoW. And have no sense of what is better and what is "more of the same". They probably have no other MMO experience aside from WoW. So many of them will probably see some videos of GW2, and login on WoW and forget it. AND to be honest, i do not want any WoW addicted/Serial Killer Wannabe in the GW community. GW from what i know have a QUALITY over QUANTITY "rule" and i really want for it to extend itself not only on game but on community as well. I do not want GW2 to be a WoW - killer. I want it to be a great game where i can play with friendly people.

if you do not know what i mean by serial killer wannabe, look up in youtube something like WoW deleted account, and pay attention on the reaction. "scary".

Launch is everything nowadays. If the game doesn't deliver what was promised, people won't wait endless amount patches & updates for it's full potential.

Remember what happened to AoC-so-called-WoW-killer? Start was promising but when players realized that there was nothing to do when you reached hit cap (bugged raid content, lack of everything), they didn't renew their subcriptions.

GW was my 1st MMORPG. But the WoW hype was so strong at that time so it made me wonder if i'm missing something special. So i bought WoW and what happened? Now i'm 5 year WoW veteran...but World of Warcraft is decaying from it's former glory. I tried AoC & Warhammer but they were nowhere close to WoW.

I will probably buy both GW2 and Cataclysm. We shall see which one will prevail, i really hope it's GW2.

I'll be honest, when I was playing WoW, GW was not my priority. I played GW like I would a console title casually. I pulled the wool over my eyes and saw the constant treadmill that WoW had me on and just ripped myself out of it. (It helped that I had to graduate at the time) so I dropped it like the bad habit that it was. Guild Wars, as a game, still holds up. I can log in 16 months later and still not be "behind".

Granted, GW2 looks like the leveling experience may take longer than a weekend, I don't think we'll be playing the grind game like a second job just to stay competitive. We'll be playing a lot because it will actually be fun. No treadmills!

Yeah we cant tell anything untill it releases but theres a prety good chance that Blizzard will not sit as relaxed as they were before.
And yes i also hate wow now
Wow vanilla was good but the expansions are just trash.

And guess why. Some People that had created wow vanilla left blizzard to create red 5 studios.
In their turn they created FireFall which is awesome and Free!
