    You never know!

You never know just how hard it is to pick up a trumpet and play a simple scale after going 7 months without playing any brass instuments at all!

For 6 years i played Trumpet, French Horn, and Tuba. After my 3rd year of marching band in high school i decided i was tired of my directors constant complaining and mistreatment of the band. In 4 years of working there he has made the band shrink to under half its original size so i quit. I only have one more year of school so i figured it didnt make a difference anyway, but just the other day i got some great news. The band director at the school my step dad works for asked me to come march for their band next year! It turns out they have been dieing to have me since they have seen me at there competitions.

While im on spring break I found it to be a good time to pick up my trumpet and start getting ready for the next year since it has been 7 month of not playing anything but drums :P I knew it was not going to sound that great but i had no idea i was only going to be able to play 30mins befor I couldent even get a sound out of it .

Hey that's good news! I'm sure you'll get the hang of it again, I've always played the violin and then didn't play it for a long time, took me a few days to get used to it again. And boy my fingers hurt!

I hated band. I played the trombone and every trombone I used wouldn't slide no matter how much it was washed or whatever. I had to learn to put a ton of pressure on the slide while not letting it slide too far. It was a good experience, though, because having to just work through shit makes you stronger (or at least it's supposed to).

I play violin though, and I had a two year hiatus after I played for a few years. It took a long time to re-build technique and skill with it again, and I'm really just an amateur even now after more years of lessons (much, much, room for improvement, but to untrained ears and eyes I could probably seem impressive). Use it or lose it, I guess.
