Will I be able to run GW2 on this?

So I have a mac so unless I get a parallel or whatever I wouldn't be able to run it on that. However my brother plans on getting a new laptop and said i could have his old one so I can play but it isn't the best so I was wondering if I would be able to run the game smoothly on it as I don't want to buy the game to find out it doesn't work.
It's a sony viao VGN-FW21L and this is the only spec info I could really find on it (don't know if it is actually relevant or useful)
Notebook: Sony Vaio VGN-FW21L (Vaio VGN-FW Series)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5800
Graphics Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470

    I know it's running Windows 7.

If it's irrelevant info could someone do a search on it's specs and see if I could run GW2 please?
I really want to play this game, kinda makes me regret getting a mac lol.

Sorry, I'm not really knowledgable when it comes to PCs
    cheers

The laptop might be able to play on lowest settings but I'm not sure how smooth it'd be. A 3470 is about as good as Intel HD 3000 graphics and that's listed as a minimum requirement.

There's also the possibility the game will run under wine. One such report that Guild Wars 2 can run on wine has already appeared. Wine is a program that allows windows programs to run on linux and macs. Though I can't verify how valid it is, the person is claiming to have been involved in the beta. I use linux myself and am personally not very worried that Guild Wars 2 won't run on wine. The original Guild Wars has a platinum rating (highest possible) in wine and Guild Wars 2 uses a modified version of the same engine.

Thanks, I did a little research and some people said stuff like that wouldn't be worth it due to how slow the game would run etc. others said it would work just fine. Couldn't really find a definite answer lol.
Is Wine free? if not how much does it cost and how do I go about installing it? do I need to know a lot of technical stuff to get it to work or is it fairly simple?
I'm guessing I'll either have to buy a windows OS license to install unless someone in my family has one hiding somewhere?
My mac is fairly old but here are the system specs
Graphics: Nvidia geforce 9400M and GT
    intel core 2 duo
    processor speed 2.8ghz
    L2 cache 6mb
    memory 4gb
    Bus speed 1.07ghz
Like I said I don't know what much of anything means so I'm just copy what I think may be useful xD
hope this helps and thanks for your reply

Wine is completely free to use and its speed depends on the game. Some people claim their games run just as well under wine as they do under windows. Personally, I thought while playing Rift that the game would've been running a little bit better if I had native windows. But, a 4650 isn't very good for Rift as it is so I was lucky I could get the game to run smoothly on low settings in wine. I never had any problems playing WoW on my 4650 in wine, but because WoW has the option to play under opengl graphics there was much less work wine had to do. If I play Guild Wars 2, which I think I am, I plan on upgrading my video card because this 4650 is reaching the end of its life.

From reading around and comparing both the 9400m and the 3470 to Intel HD 3000 graphics which are listed as the minimum requirement I'm thinking neither of them will be able to play the game. Both the 9400m and 3470 are ranked lower than the HD 3000 on the graphics cards evaluation sites I've looked at.

I think your best bet to play would be in getting a cheap desktop. Older laptops that weren't designed for gaming probably aren't going to be able to play a new game on any settings. Laptop graphics solutions have only just barely started to become affordable and viable options for gaming.

GW2 has the requirements for playing the game on their website, here's the link https://buy.guildwars2.com/ you'll find it at the bottom of the page. Enjoy

You shall rue the day you see Spanish Inquisition, as it will be your last. (And yes, I CAN outrun a centaur)

    Well this definitely sucks T_T
I really wanted to play but unfortunately I don't have enough money to casually buy a desktop just to play one game.
Only thing I can think of is prepurchase the game, try running the beta and see how it goes on my bro's pc. If it doesn't work then hope I can get a refund on the game.
    Totally gutted.

I can't really think of anything aside from just signing up for the beta to have the opportunity to test without buying the game. Just putting it out there but a desktop setup that's capable of playing the game can be built for about $300.

    Here's an example build:

    http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...D233-R&cat=SYS
Case, motherboard, dvd drive, hard drive, ram, processor, power supply, windows OS= $180

    http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...024-PB&cat=VCD
    Video card= $56

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/PROVIEW-PL71...ht_1509wt_1165
    Monitor= $45

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823109232
    Keyboard + Mouse= $20

    Total: $301

But you'd probably want wi-fi which would be another $10-15.

Just pointing out that because the guild wars 2 minimum requirements are low enough, older desktops which people are trying to pretty much give away can be used and they sell for relatively little.

Thanks for taking the time to do that for me and explain things , I'm from the UK so prices are irrelevant to me unfortuntetly but I will do research on how much the same setup will cost over here! (probably double as USA is always cheaper )
