Thread: Completely and utterly NEW. Please be kind :)

    Well, given how close Tera remains to the traditional mmo genre (sure, combat is better, leveling is faster, but the whole questing is very traditional, you quickly outlevel an area, it's extremely endgame-focused, as Vayne said: it lacks a personal storyline, their fairly traditional pvp system, etc) and how many other things GW2 tries to innovate on, and your quote that Tera is "just as good" as Guild Wars 2, yes, that to me says you have little faith in GW2. Then again, given how much you obviously love Tera, maybe I should have seen it as a compliment.

    >Open world PVP.
    >Questing areas are fluent and in sequence.
    ?Personal story line? I'm playing to PVP, not role play.
    >TRADITIONAL PVP SYSTEM? WELCOME TO MMO'S.
    >ETC. Can't think of anything else.

    Don't sperg out too hard.
    I know you've been anticipating this game for the past 1.5 years, but nerdgasm too hard until you play.

    I don't need to play a game to know something about it, any more than I need to have lived through the plague to know something about that. Writers learn to do research, and one of the things I do keep tabs on is MMOs. Do I know everything about every MMO. Nope. Do I keep in the loop in what MMOs are offering? Sure.

    Because I want to find MMOs that I like. I like the potential of the genre rather than the execution.

    Terra was one of the new games I looked into, along with TSW, Arch Age and Guild Wars 2. The thing that turned me off about Terra almost right away was the holy trinity..and in fact, a developer early on talking about not only needing three roles...but four, breaking DPS down into ranged and melee. Not my cup of tea.

    Terra has some nice features to it. I've already alluded to the political system for example and the guild vs. guild PVP is something people seem to like. I understand that the American release may not have battlegrounds in it at launch but that wouldn't bother me.

    What does bother me is the traditional tropes...the dull questing, the holy trinity..these are things I can't personally abide. I don't need to play Terra to know that.

    Did I say it was a bad game? Nope. But it's not a game for me.

    Guild Wars 2 has hit most of the right notes for me, more than any other game, which is one of the reasons I'm here.

    But don't say that I haven't played this game or I haven't played that game so I can't know. I've never been stabbed in the eye before, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't enjoy it.

    Thanks for confirming my point.

    just alittle something , so you can get the feel for using your computer instead of a joypad, try downloading a free game on facebook and play around on that for a couple of days , it will give you some kind of perspective.

    you wouldnt wanna play an mmo game with a controller my friend.
    better try and get used to keyboard+mouse =(

    advice:
    mouse = turning
    keyboard = everything else.

    as for the learning curve, i think its gonna be a weird one.
    havent played any other mmo with GW2's dodge-vs-aim kinda thing.

    and btw, all consoles are good for nowadays is to screw up otherwise great pc games,
    which try to be console-friendly, or worse, console games released for PC >_<

    Hello folks. I tried searching but I couldn't find the software in order to use a PS3 for GW2.
    Needless to say, I am horrible with the keyboard when it comes to GW2. Maybe since i'm so used to FPS games.

    Um, keyboard controls are exactly as in FPS? Just set strafe to A and D and you're set.

    GW2 controls are completely different that FPS games. I set A, D, to strafe and I couldn't maneuver my character to where i wanted it to go.
