When I play a game like Guild Wars, I tend to watch a lot of movies that FEEL the same way. Lucky for me, my favorite genre happens to be the BATTLE EPIC. From fantasy to history, the battle epic encompasses the feel and the grit of fantastical war, and thus ties itself strongly to any traditional fantasy based RPG, such as Guild Wars... thus I thought it prudent to ask:
What are your favorite EPIC movies?
Some of my favorties are (in no particular order):
The Last Samurai
Braveheart
Gladiator
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Alexander (Revisited)
The Messenger
Seven Samurai
Attila
Troy
300
Of course, my favortie movie of all time is KINGDOM OF HEAVEN... Ridley Scott's brilliant direction of a perfectly crafted story of the crusades is both majestic in being as well as spectacular in action. I highly doubt any film will usurp its place as my favorite at any time... though I never say never.
I'm obviously really looking forward to Scott's Robin Hood, but alas, I've not the money to see it, atm.
At any rate, what are you favorite epics?
Or what are your favortie fantasies, even?
To get the idea across...
What are you favortie movies that feel like GW to you?
Well 300 is both my favorite epic movie and favorite movie. All the ones you guys have said are pretty staple. I particularly love LotR, Troy and Braveheart especially. Troy has some of the best fight choreogrophy in a movie period. I also dug the Clash of the Titans remake.
Another one that I can watch anyday of the week is the Robert Zemeckis Beowulf!
The Gladiator thing, I don't agree with... yeah its Ridley Scott and Russell Crow, but the similarities end there. As for the critical reviews of the film, I actrually found it funny... the key complaint is that the film seems to feel like Kingdom of Heaven 2... and thats what I was hoping for! I was even hoping they got the same guy to play King Richard, lol... but yeah... the "negative" reviews have done nothing but excite me for the film... but yeah, I can see how a non-Scott fan would be dissiniterested. That said, I still think the Gladiator 2 thing is stupid, and something people are jusst throwing at it on a cosmetic level based on star and director... with that mentality, Chris Nolan would have only made like 2 different movies in his whole career... 2 movies, and a shit load of sequels (when really, he's only made one sequel, so far)... thats just a stupid mentality.
true, sort of. Everything they've shown in the trailers makes it extremely stylized like Gladiator though. Even Crowe looks exactly like Maximus. His hair and everything. And they're even going in the epic battle direction, like Gladiator, which is sort of an interesting take on Robin Hood.
Scott has been very hit or miss in the past 10 years or so. For every American Gangster, there's Body of Lies and Hannibal to go with it.
