Okay guys, your WoW is showing. You're talking about WvW as if it's structured PVP. This is a massive area, with hundreds of people fighting all at the same time. And it's a PVe area, in which combat is allowed. There's crafting nodes to gather, you can do crafting. In fact, you can level from 1-80 in WvW. So what's the difference is someone comes in and does a jumping puzzle. How is this different from people on a PVP server doing PVe at any given time in WoW?

There are dynamic events and PVe things to do in WvW because it's a PVe part of the game where PVP happens as well.

And how can someone grief that? The entire thing is set up to be casual and basically imbalanced. Servers that have less people on them get buffed to compensate, there's three factions, so the two weaker factions can go up against the dominant faction and take them down.

I just don't really see any way to grief WvW...at least no obvious way. Personally I plan to do WvW as well, but with a smaller group, taking mines and limiting supply to the keeps who need that to repair. One guy or even a dozen doing a jumping puzzle won't affect your experience at all.

Edit: Ah I listened further and see what you mean by griefing. I'm not sure that in WvW anyone will care enough to do that, but if they do, that's PVP, no? Because everyone is level 80, ganking is going to be a lot harder. And those that want to get there first, have to take the time to do the puzzle too. I don't see it happening very often.

I just listened to part 2 of the podcast.

    * First off, advance congrats on the new rugrat!

    * GW1: yeah, I get your issues. I guess it's like watching the original Star Trek series once you've seen the New Generation series. To be fair, once you get used to the game, GW1 actually is a pretty fun game... especially if you can enjoy playing it solo with your heroes. But yeah, if you compare it to GW2, it's a world of difference. But still, if you want to get into the lore as background info for your podcast, then it's still a good idea to at least play through Prophecies and Eye of the North once.

    * Thanks for the mention, btw!

    * One small addition: volume on the podcast is still a little low, even if I turn the volume on my headset all the way up... so a small boost there would be appreciated.

    * Contrary to Vayne (who by now hates WoW with a vengeance), I don't actually have a big problem with your WoW references. I never did play WoW myself, but I know a lot of people coming into GW2 did, and for that part of the community, the WoW references are probably quite helpful.

    * Crafting: yes, the cost of switching your crafting discipline does in fact increase lateron, as was confirmed here:
the cost of changing disciplines increases with the skill level in that discipline.
So changing your discipline when it's still level 1 is fairly cheap, changing the discipline when it's level 80 will be fairly expensive.

And I actually learned something... I didn't know about the difference between orange text (dynamic event) and yellow text (meta event) yet... I guess I haven't paid that much attention to dynamic event colors on my map anyway.

Yeah everything in GW 2 is color coded, I think your personal story is green. It's really useful to keep track of what's what. Like everything marked with the * is actually colored like the star. I found it a really good system.

Hey guys this is Nick, I wanted to make sure to get on here and thank y'all personally as well. It's been some great feedback and good conversation pieces. So in regards to the quests/tasks this is what I came up with, I'm sure you guys have seen it by now too, but I got it all from the wiki:

    tasks.jpg

    Meta.jpg

So it looks as if the Meta Events will have more of a title to them, and there are a limited number per area:

    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Meta_event

And the 'Hearts' are known as 'Renown Tasks' (Thats what was throwing me off during the cast when Travis mentioned the Yellow items as they look yellow to me when they're displayed)

    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heart

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents out there as I had to do some more digging myself after the cast to see what Travis was talking about with the 'Meta Events'. And also thank you guys for taking the time to listen in and provide the feed back you have.

    Look forward to further discussions!

VAYNE! Hey man, we greatly appreciate all of your feedback, we enjoy the involvement of our listeners and love getting your insight on things. So far I'd say you and Centaur have been the most engaging and we've enjoyed your comments. We're definitely enjoying the community as a whole thus far and guildwars2forums seems to have a great one. Let us know if you have any suggestions for items to talk about.

Hopefully we get some good news between now and the next post as it's tough to keep talking about the same stuff with nothing new provided. So we're really trying to break things down a little further and hit more individualized topics each episode until we have more to run with. I'm thinking next week we might start breaking down some of the professions a little more, so if you have any thoughts please feel free to share. We'd love to discuss on the next cast!

Thanks for the updates, Nick, and welcome to this forum! I'm really enjoying the podcast so far and I hope you can keep it up like this! I know you guys just started Guild Wars 1 and are still struggling with it, but for a future episode it may be nice to have an episode about the GW lore and the links that you see in the game between GW1 and GW2... I'm sure something like that would be very useful for the people who came from games like WoW and don't know all that much about the GW lore yet.

I love getting in to the lore of games and am working diligently at getting up to speed with it. I just finished up 'Ghosts of Ascalon' last night and am going to start on 'Edge of Destiny' tonight along with trying to power through the story of GW1 (which as Vayne noted is very slow to start). Besides the standard mechanics though I've been enjoying GW1 for what it is and in having read 'Ghosts of Ascalon' now and knowing what the game is going to lead up to, it's interesting to watch it all play out. It's especially entertaining to read about characters such as Dougal Keane and then see them in GW2 (Lions Arch).

I'll do my best to continue delving into the story elements and will be sure to bring them up more in our discussions. We're working on devising a cleaner structure with more dedicated 'segments' and would like to add a segment for lore. I'm loving the lore so far based off what I've gathered from the book(s) though, and how it comes in to play between the two games.
