hmm, tbh Ruse, the interface is somthin industry complained about.....yes it wasn't anything good....but IMO, there was certainly nothing bad about it.....the game was buggy and slow which made the interface long to use, and the sidemenu thing which was a kajillion options, wasn't really all that useful, wuda been nice to change graphics in game........well I only played the beta, I wasn't foolish enuf to buy it.

Hi Dude34, welcome to these forums. Here are all the quotes from ArenaNet people that we have on this issue:

    (Eurogamer interview, August 2010):
Q: Will Guild Wars ever come to consoles?

Eric Flannum: We think consoles are interesting. We have a small group here at ArenaNet that are doing investigation of console technology. But we've no console plans at this time.
(El33tonline, transcribed in his own words from an interview with Colin Johanson, August 2011):
El33tonline: The focus is on PC, but what about the consoles for Guild Wars 2?

The team is focusing all resources on making Guild Wars 2 for the PC. Some work has been done in the past to evaluate a console option, however, nothing is actively being worked on presently. Personally I hope once Guild Wars 2 is out the door and the team have spent some time catching up with family, that they apply themselves to developing a console version. Build it and they will come.
    (Tap-Repeatedly interview, September 2011):
Tap: Was there ever a discussion by ArenaNet to bring Guild Wars 2 to a console market? Guild Wars 2s lack of a subscription fee could fit well where games just buy the product off the shelf and away they go…

Colin Johanson: It really is something console gamers are used to and we did have a small team investigate it but our biggest thing right now is to focus on making this the greatest PC game ever made. If you don’t set that as your target, you aren’t ever going to do that. You have to make that your focus if your ever going to make a great game. We want to do that first and foremost. Everything we have is being used to make that a reality and once we get to the point where we’ve released the game, we are going to sit down and look at all the options with the research we’ve done and potentially see if that’s viable, but right now we aren’t thinking about it. We are just trying to make the greatest PC game ever made.
    (Nowgamer interview, October 2011):
Q: ArenaNet also has a team dedicated to exploring the possibilities of Guild Wars 2 for consoles. Is this still a logistical challenge in this generation?

Theo Nguyen: Well yeah, we have that team looking at the possibility, but right now all of our focus is on making Guild Wars 2 the best PC game possible. But there is every possibility of a console game in future.
So I definitely wouldn't expect anything on console anytime soon!

To my understanding the biggest limitation is the controller. Would there be significant market for MMORPGs on consoles? It's hard to tell, I can't think of any traditional MMORPGs on a console, so it might be tricky appealing to the same market that, say, buys and plays almost exclusively Call of Duty (which is a massive amount of people). But whenever I think about it, it all comes back to the controller. Even with GW2's relatively low amount of skills at any one point in time (compared to say, WoW, where you had a ridiculous amount of things on your skill bar), it's still a lot to pack into a controller. As far as I see it you'd have to either use key combinations (eg. hold right trigger + X to get a different skill than just pressing X) which is a little awkward, or use menus where you manually select your active skills, which is extremely awkward for fast paced games.

Really fast paced games tend not to work well on consoles because of controllers. Tribes Ascend is another game in a similar position, where the high pace, demand for accuracy and player skill doesn't translate well. I know the PS3 can use a keyboard, but I imagine a lot of people would get pissed off if they bought some fancy looking game but were forced to buy a keyboard just to use it. I'd love to see GW2 appreciated by console players, but I'm not sure how practical it would be.

Even though it would take the "feel" out of the game, it could be a good direction and bring a lot of new players, other mmod are also on the ps3, from what ive heard thve been sucessful
