Thread: PvE Leveling

  1. #11
I just don't see how it will be possible to level slowly. I'll be playing somewhat slowly, doing crafting, but based on the beta progression, expect the levels to go by very fast. All it really takes is to do all the content in two zones at once and you'll be 40 within a week.

You seem to have thought this was a thread on power leveling. That is far from the case. It was and is intended as a way to experience the game and continue leveling. If I had wanted to power level, I would have recommended players stay in lower level areas where it is easier and constantly repeat the same Events because they are easier and will level you very fast instead of attempting more challenging content in tougher areas.

On a personal note, I am the type of player that likes to level consistantly... always exploring and going to new and higher level content, experiencing as much of the game as I can, but I do tend to level fast but that is mostly because I play A LOT and put in a LOT of time into a game. The joy for me of leveling ?fast? is that I learn more and more about game content as I go along, experience more of the world, see how the world, character creation, the story progresses, and more as I move toward maximum level. I don't really enjoy working towards some big end game raids. Raids are not my favorite thing. Leveling and exploring is my real joy. But I do go fast, but that is just an excuse to try an alt after I've seen the, lets say, entire human story. I might like to be a norn next and see what their story is like and their characters are like. I intend to play an elementist my first character, but I have a real desire to also play a ranger some time.

But before you label people that level fast as some sort of powerleveling monster that seeks only endgame content, realize that some people like to see the entire world as much as they can as fast as they can, then maybe experience an alt doing the same thing.

SWTOR had a very good leveling experience. Not as good as GW2 in its Events, but different in that the fully voiced MMO aspect of SWTOR was better for story, at least for me. GW2 will have a different aspect of leveling that I expect to enjoy. I do love me those Events.

I agree alomost completely with @Tomas.
You lost me re: SW:ToR. hehe The storyline implementation is what killed that game for me, especially on my 6th time through. And the Republic side entirely disappointed.

Oh well, going back to sleep now. *waves*

@Dark Slalom... the SWTOR story could get repetitive and was cheesy in some ways with characters like the Trooper. But the Smuggler story was fun... nothing like carrying around a Sith Lord head as a gift

The key to remember is that there is no true PvE Endgame. There is no need to try and rush through the levels. With the down-leveling mechanism, you have no worry of out-leveling an area. This gives you the choice of jumping around. The only thing I think you want to be aware of is make sure to hit the karma vendors in areas equal to your current level is you start doing level-equal content.

Personally, I just want to get to 30 to have use of the elite skill. I also hit 2 starting areas to get a jump on skill points.

I'm also someone who levels fast, I'm just not the type of player to do stuff slow-paced, I like seeing as much as I can in as little time as possible because I'm so dying to see everything this game has to offer.
However, I know those tactics won't work in GW2 because the 'slower' you play the more you get to see, because you'll have more events you run into etc.

That's deffinetly something I'm gonna have to get used to haha.

I don't want to level faster than my crafting. Keeping crafting going throughout a character's life is really fun.

Well, imho the leveling pace in GW2 is already fast, but the point is... leaving all lower level areas behind as soon as you have reached a higher level, would be a terrible waste. Sure, you could think "ah well, I may see that on another character", but given how dynamic events work, you may not. Especially in higher level zones the triggers that lead up to a specific dynamic event may be fairly complex. So it may be worth sticking around a while longer and looking at all the DEs that are going on, even if you have already reached a level high enough to get started in the next zone.
Also, at any level you can go back to these zones and possibly experience some completely different DEs.
In short: I recommend completely letting go of the focus on level and the idea that you have to "move forward" to higher level zones. The story will surely take you there eventually, but there's no need to rush it any further. Just do the stuff in an area as long as it's fun to do it, and as long as you feel that there are new things to explore. Once you've done all the fun stuff and it starts to become repetitive, move on. Most of the time you should find that you're already high enough level (or beyond) by that time.

Normally for me its a race to level in any mmo, but when I played Guild Wars2, the first time i did not even think of looking at my level or XP bar, because it felt like playing an RPG with friends. I didnt care about leveling, just kept running around having fun, questing has never been more fun, I am mostly a PvP guy, but this time I thoroughly enjoyed PvE and got lost in its world for a beautiful weekend...

I love the leveling pace in this game. I love how I can take my time to explore and discover things. I did the 2 BWE and in the end I was "only" lvl 25 on my human elementalist, 10 on my norn ranger and charr warrior, despite having played 4 full days in total.
