Thread: PvE Leveling

I am a sir, and yeah, when the whole game feels like end game the need to level is moot. Except for elitist that this game was obviously not designed for. Thats a different discussion though.

I played solo from level 1,yesterday, and at level 13 as a Norn my STORY LINE has me trying to reach an area filled with level 18's and the entire area is surrounded by level 20's. I can't even get close to the area. I'm sorry but the story line is an utter failure.

All that adds up quite a bit of XP.
I did now, and am way over leveled, but that is fine because of scaling.

You need to do more dynamic events, vistas, skill challenges, etc. Exploring another starting zone (level 1-15 zone) will get you tons of experience as well. See my problem above.

I've heard some comments about the Norn storyline being incredibly difficult at some points. That said, make sure you aren't entering a level 18 instance of your story at level 13, as you obviously wont be ready yet.

I've seen a lot of people go afk at events while auto attacking but I read that macros are not allowed and you can get banned. This kinda sucks for me because people are getting away with it because I'm too lazy to report, whatever.

Best legit way to level is through use of the dynamic events doing as many as fast as possible.

To the stop and smell the roses peeps I feel ya just only way to do everything is to at least power lvl one alt WvW lvls fast if can get in, do good, and in a coordinated squad/raid.

    ^ Yeah that!

I also agree with Thomas. I quickly discovered that gathering resources/mats for tradeskills is a nice way to make some extra (more or less effortless) XP. The events are really great when it comes to getting a bucket of XP and some cash. I had no idea about anything the first time I ended up in an event, but after a few times I learned to chase them down and they are indeed a great deal of fun.

Looking forward to many hours of GW2-playing. I may have to cancel my IRL-subscription.

Those who race through the game to get to 80 will probably be disappointed to find that there's nothing to find there...at least not anything more than they've already experienced. There's no big raid waiting for you. There's the same sorts of experiences you've been having all along.

    What's really the point?
For me personally, I only played LOTRO before this (Before that I played Quake III Arena and Call of Duty 4), so my only experience is with Lord of the Rings: Online. In that game, for me it was all about levelling and getting better, and gaining more and better gear at the highest level. I loved it, playing a big raid for that one piece that I wanted. That was the fun for me personally. I didn't really care much about quests, but I still did enjoy doing them.

In Guild Wars 2, I am also trying to reach 80 quickly. I know I won't find anything new and really interesting, but I can start to focus more on PvP and WvW. I am guessing that when I have some real level 80 gear, and more traits, I will also survive a bit more and I will be able to enjoy it a bit more. At least, I'm hoping.

I am also hoping that once I reach level 80, I have to work for my gear still, for example, gathering the gold needed to buy that missing piece from the trader or something :P

There are many people who are just missing the point of how truly great this game is. I am playing five characters at once all of different races and professions with a slight overlap in crafting. I have all five characters up to level 25 since my "head start" and the fun is in letting each character help my other characters through gathering supplies, sharing weapons or armour or even gold. I sell very little as I use most of what I obtain amongst all my characters. As I am getting over level 20 and am finishing each character's starting zone, I am seeing that taking my character into another starting zone lets me much more deeply explore the new zone that a starting character could not do the first time through. The enemies are easier but the game gives me more groups of monsters not so much one on one so the challenge is definately still there and it "feels" harder and still a challenge. Yes, hearts and events and dialog are the same so a little repetitious but it is now fun to help others and begin to lead events rather than just participate as I am usually one of the stronger members in the event now. There were also sections like caves and hideouts in the starter areas where I died consistently but now with a higher character can do much better or I can actually explore completely which was not possible with a starter character. By taking my time and by playing all my characters evenly, I not only have to learn how to fight differently but I have a ton more resources to manage and craft thus making the game fairly complex and very engrossing. I too would be bored if I only played one character and I would not appreciate the challenges of each race or profession as you MUST fight differently when you wear light armour vs heavy, our use more spells vs a bow and a pet. I challenge those complaining at level 80 to create other characters and experience the game from different character perspectives from being from royalty to being from the street, it does change the gameplay. I am just worrying that the developers are so worried about players who are not really playing the game as intended and who are rushing through that they are introducing armour and weapons that could have been saved for an expansion pack or could have been introduced next summer once most of us get to level 80 by that time.

an old comment but just in case pople have missed it, next to the description of yr storyline quest is a number in brackets indicating the level you should be at to do it. Get some skill points and do some heart quests and dynamic events to reach the recommended level. If you do the personal quests at a higher than the recommended level then the gear you get as a reward will be no good to you.
