Thread: Favourite profession so far (post guardian release)

Guardian all the way... For a few reasons:

    1. HARD TO KILL: While they may not have quite as much health as a warrior, they heal more quickly and are able to shield themselves well (shield of absorption, wards, etc). They also can wear plate armor which makes them harder to kill.

    2. Easy to Solo: Mostly for the reasons said above.

    3. Good at protecting allies: Wards are a nice touch, not to mention the ability to sacrifice your virtues to buff your allies. Not to mention they can take their allies' negative status conditions and use those against their enemies.

    4. Variety of attacks: Guardians can use scepters, torches, hammers, shortswords, two-handers, shields, the whole nine yards.

    5. They're versatile: It has been said that the guardian can do just about anything... just only one thing at a time. This does require some intense strategy and understanding of a situation, but so does playing with any spellcaster, so I think it's not truly a downside.

That's just a few things I thought of off the top of my head.

Having said that, I will want to make one of every alt and try them all out. I'll like all of em I think. I haven't seen any profession that I just thought "I have no desire to play that class whatsoever."

I'm going to play Guardian or Thief, but I think it'll be most likely the Guardian. I've always been a healer (post WoW time), so Guardian will be the best choice for being my class, since it's the best support class imo.

Definitely thief, I can't stand having to control 2 characters like ranger + pet or necro + summon

I'm liking how the warrior's AOE is looking. We were watching a few videos today (me and my 5yr old) and even the bow skills are sweet. Heck, what am I saying.... Last week it was the thief and tomorrow most likely we'll be looking at guardian vids and want to try that one more. Come on pre-order betas! I'm torn and need to take this baby for a test drive!

For me, my two favorite are between engineer and ranger. During my WoW years, i played as a shaman and loved placing down totems to help me fight an enemy. This sounds like something engineers will be doing and I might as well use a play style ive previously played with/liked. As for ranger, I love the playstyle they have with bow+animals+rolling around = awesome. I'm definitely rolling one of those, just gotta decide which =/. Leaning engineer however.

No doubt I'll be going for a Sylvari Elementalist. I don't like the sound of most of the other classes, and although they may turn out to be a lot of fun, the elementalist looks fun already.

    Probably: Warrior, Ranger
    Perhaps: Elementalist, Engineer
    Possible: Guardian, Mesmer
    Absolutely not: Thief, Necro

I like the natural style. While the Elementalist and Engineer look interesting and I want to see them in action, I would prefer to have them in my party instead of playing them myself, at least initially. When I run around in the forest in a Medieval world, I want to hold a wooden bow or a swordhilt in my hands, the way you do at a LARP. That makes it look more real to me.

Also, I am glad to see a shield that is actually used by the player, instead of simply providing defense automatically. I predict that the shield will be a lot more appreciated than people think. It is easier to hit 5 and be protected than to strafe to the sides.

Strangely, I could never be enthusiastic about the Guardian. It looks like a warrior but with the magic turned up - and it looks like there will be so many Guardians anyway, because so many seem to like not being easily killed.

Dark professions were never my style. There are enough shadows, I want sunlight. I used to play Vampire: the Masquerade though, so I understand the appeal - but I don't like it anymore. Maybe the winter months have made me desire the daylight more.

It will be interesting to see how popular the professions become once the game starts. Game mechanics will inevitably change things, no matter how hard the developers have tried to make the professions balanced. Some are bound to be easier to use than others, and that will be a factor. Some will look and feel different than hoped. The developers are taking risks with some professions; I hope it turns out well, as it is good to have a balanced game, we'll see.

Howdy, first post from me on your forums. Hello, hello.

Think its going to be warrior. I did consider the guardian but was put off with the Paladin vibe that pours from it in gold and blue waves of holy...errr...goodness?

For me I want a no nonsense kind of fighter, no frills or magic. Just me, some plate and a massive sword to cut a bloody swath through my foes...and a sword and board as back up for when the excrement inevitably hits the fan.

Second choices would be either an Elementalist, Mesmer or Engineer but I'll worry about that nearer to the time. I really like the look of class design in this game and have high hopes for its release, which always surprised me as I hated guildwars 1 with an unbridled passion. Here's to the future then!
