Thread: sylvari makeover

    sylvari makeover

    So I have heard several mentions on the forum that the sylvari were getting reworked from what we have seen so far. My question is is this remake official (as in have the makers said they are doing this)?

    I for one really like what I have seen of the sylvari so far and if the remake is official I hope they don't change too much or allow for this style as well. Like maybe choosing a straight back or hunched charr (will this be a choice?)

    I don't have an actual link to provide (Centaur!), but I have heard it from developers that they are receiving a makeover. How much of a makeover that actually occurred remains to be seen.

    Yes, the sylvari redesign is official. Eric Flannum apparently told it to several people who attended Comic Con (October 2010), though no official quotes of this are available. Several sources claim that that redesign was completed around October, but I have yet to read a confirmation of this. But if that is true, then the 'surprise' at PAX East may well be the reveal of the new sylvari.

    In the meantime, what I do have, is:

    In a november guildfans interview Eric Flannum stated:

    ...even though we showed off the Sylvari a year ago we have recently gone back to improve them...
    Nothing to indicate how big of a redesign ('improvement') it will be...

    Thanks for the responses. I agree the surprisre could be this reveal. On a side note I mentioned this at the end of my original post. Will you be able to choose a hunched charr vs straight backed chart?

    From what I've seen, no. Altho they have no problem straightening up for certain movements, so apparently they're just lazy?

    I'm with Psyklone on this... I doubt they will have 2 different forms for the charr. That would mean they'd have to make 2 sets of most animations. Besides, it's part of their nature. Try making a dog or cat stand up straight without hunching a little bit (on second thought: don't try this at home... I don't want to be prosecuted for putting you up to animal torture).
    So they'll probably stand slightly hunched most of the time, run on all fours, and on occasion stand up straight for a short time.

    It makes sense that they would pick one to minimize the number of animations, I've just been playing through gw1 and there is a big difference between say charr casters and the blade storms ( with rangers being a sort of middle ground) so I wasn't sure how this would be handled.

    Well, different professions will definitely have a lot of different skill animation, so who knows, some may be a bit less hunched than others.

    That might just happen , as casters and physicals don't share any animations.
