I had the impression of evil, or maybe a better word would be tainted. But it's been a while since I read the book, so I don't want to say too much, I'm a bit foggy on it.
The Nightmare Court are indeed the 'evil' faction of the Sylvari (just like every race has their own evil versions).
To quote the wiki:
So Faolain may sound like a nice character to you, but her motives are all but nice...The sylvari are a race of innocence and purity, guided by the visions and experiences of the Dream of Dreams. However, within this Dream there exist terrible nightmares, which remain, to the sylvari, unexplained.
The Nightmare Court, who reject the Ventari Tablet's teachings, embrace these nightmares, attempting to understand them whilst giving life to them with acts of evil. Their sylvari converts are forced to commit dreadful acts that destroy every last ounce of virtue they may have left. The Nightmare Court hold Dark Vigils, which consist of depraved tournaments and other detestable acts, all the while contributing to the growing nightmare within the dream.
The primary motivation of the Nightmare Court is to corrupt the Pale Tree herself, bringing her around to their twisted ideals.
I look forward to playing a Sylvari Necro. Poison Ivy makes such a good color scheme for a toon.
I was liking the old look, reminds me of the space hippies in the TOS Star Trek show.
Yeah, I too thought the old look was pretty nice. I definitely hope that the makeover really does make it better, not worse.
I like all of the races, but Sylvari could definitely use a polish and I'm sure they'll take care of that before release.
This is the links I have found. I don't know if you have seen them yet but here they are if you haven't.
Growing the Sylvari
Redesigning the Sylvari
I love the new design. I'm glad the Sylvari isn't just another elf race. I can't wait to make my Necro.
