Interview with John Strumme by wartower.de

The video below is a 20min video interview with John Strumme regarding among other things 7-hero teams, Embark Beach and minion master upgrades. Yay!

Edit: Oh! 15 minutes in is a bit about Mercenary Heros. A microtransaction where you can use one of yoru other characters as a hero. That is awesome!

    Yeah, I saw it too!

Today we are going to talk with John Stumme about the upcoming Guild Wars content update that will hit the live servers on March the 3rd. Yes, that's later today! Chances are the build is already up and running if you didn't catch this video early. Today's show is all about the original game, but wait... even if you're just into Guild Wars 2, there might be still some nice background lore for you. So stay tuned for a lot of information about the 7-hero group, the new mission hub Embark Beach, a closer look at the recent Dervish update as well as changes to PvE related skills and titles, interface improvements, some juicy, juicy stuff for all the Pre-Searing players out there, and one big Charr of pure awesomeness: [????????]
(sorry, can't quite understand what that last word is.... "hero-wise" ?)

multiplayer.it (Italian site) also has a short list of the things discussed in this video:
    (rough translation):

Tomorrow NCSoft and ArenaNet will release an update to Guild Wars and Multiplayer.it has the exclusive scoop on the content. The update introduces a new outpost called embark Beach and adds Mercenary Heroes.

    - Party of 7 - The party of the player is expanded to seven heroes that can all be Mercenary Heroes.

    - Daily Zaishen Vanquisher Quest - A new area offers a daily quest that allows for incentives and awards. To find it just look for the road sign in the area embark Beach.

    - Daily Pre-Searing Quest - In the area of Ascalon (pre-searing) are new daily quests and rewards commensurate with dynamic difficulty depending on the level of the player. The quests are valid for the title Legendary Defender of Ascalon.

    - New Panel for followers - The update includes a new panel designed to simplify the control of the followers.

    - Online Status - Players can now change their online status as soon as they enter the game and mark it as "Away", "Do Not Disturb" and of course "Online."

    - Changes to Titles - Update to the "Survivor" and "Drunk" titles.
And you can find some pics of Embark Beach over at 9lives.

Yes! 7-Hero teams, Legendary Defender without having to die, and an option to still get Survivor on my main!
Sounds like a massive update!!! I'll definitely need to schedule in some GW time for the next couple of days.
The only thing I don't like is the mention of micro transactions in combination with the Mercenary Heroes. Do we have to pay for each additional hero slot?

No idea how that is going to work but otoh what would the difference be really? Apart from making it possible to get an all ele-team or something. Other than that it is mainly a cool way of "running around with yourself"

Yeah, it sounds great being able to have your alts as heroes on any account. We'll see how much they're going to charge for that... and if they charge per slot (with complete flexibility afterwards), or per time that you use the mercenary hero registrar to "take an image of that character as it exists right then" I would definitely be very unhappy with the latter.
And I wonder if those alts will still be able to have their PvE skills, or if they will then have the same skillset as ordinary heroes...

[Edit] here is the full section on Mercenary Heroes from the interview:

WT: Okay. Hearing for the next one for the first time got me really excited. And I mean really, really excited. I do not want to steal your thunder on that one, as I cannot begin to imagine how you must feel to finally reveal it. Mercenary Heroes!

JS: Yes. Mercenary Heroes is a super exciting feature, and it's one of the first of the many big things that we're going to be doing this year. It's a new microtransaction item that is going into the store, and basically what it boils down to is, it is the ability to take any of the characters that you have on your account, and if they meet the requirements you can turn them into a hero for your other characters to use. This means, you know, you will have heroes that look exactly the way you want them to look, they are the professions that you want them to be, and if you want to customize them with either costumes, or this type of armor, or what not, you can go ahead and do all that! If you have a character that is at level 20, all you have to do is go and talk to a mercenary hero registrar, and if you have a slot for it, he can take an image of that character as it exists right then, and make that character available as a hero for you. So in the long run not only can you have characters that look like you want running around with you, you can also make any kind of party composition with this that you want to. So this is gonna be a really big one, and I'm really excited to see it going out.

This french site has some pricing info on the Mercenary Heroes. Apparently, it's "just under 9 Euros" (8.99?) for a single slot, 15 Euros for 3 slots, and 35 Euroes for 8 slots.
If that is correct, then the difference in slot price between 1 and 3 slots is pretty big (9 Euros per slot vs 5 Euros per slot); compared to that, the difference between 3 slots and 8 slots is relatively small (4.375 per slot)

Interesting, though... the source site they mention for this info, has temporarily withdrawn the post at the request of NCSoft.

Wait, WHAT?! 7 hero group is out now? It's JUST MY LUCK that I reinstall my computer with W7 a few hours before. Now I'm going to have to get everything up and running (drivers, anti virus, GW, etc.) before I can play )':

Or am I mistaken? I freaked out when he said a release on 3rd March, LOL! *Rushes to install GW to check*

    edit: Awww... Lol.

edit2: Oh wait, god dammit, I hate being in +10GMT. Whenever someone says "day x" it really means "day x+1" for Australia. Roar!

*lol* yeah, sometime in the afternoon the guild wars Live Team may still be late in the evening for us Europeans, but it's definitely March 4 for Australasia. Oh, the fun of time zones...

Well, the good news is you still have a bit of time to get your computer up and running for it

Haha Complex, your post is the most chaotic (and for that reason the most amusing) post I've read in past couple of months .

The merc hero feature is great except for one thing... out of my 8 char slots 5 are warriors, 1 is assassin and 1 is ranger. The last one is the free pvp spot. xD

So with this build, you will finally be able to play 8-hero warrior parties all by yourself
