To be perfectly honest, despite my audio setup, most of the time I have a hard time telling the difference between Dolby DTS on DVD, and Dolby HD on blu-ray (Dolby 5.1 sounds the same regardless of the format it's stored on)

might be a weird comparison, but audio on blu-ray is so crisp my dog will bark at it from time to time. Never happens with DVD's.
To me, blue-ray is pointless unless it's an action packed movie. We were soldiers, band of brothers, 300, A.I., Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, Tron, Avatar, and so on. That reminds me, where's the "Dear Santa" post?
I used to think like that, but sometimes for me all it takes is a great soundtrack! Crystal clear HD sound is just silky smooth to the ears. Any good movie scored by Clint Mansell, James Newton Howard, or Tomandandy just to name a few makes it well worth it for me.
Don't get me wrong, I love spectacle as well. You just listed off some of my favorite movies ever.
Speaking of must-have blus, I just watched Fellowship of the Ring recently and it's like watching for the first time.
I find that being neither an image buff nor an audiphile (I cannot hear the difference between an mp3 file in 192 or 320 kbps) bluray is only interesting if the extra material is worth it. Basically the only reason to not download a movie is so I can get the extra material, if there is no fun or interestin extra material I won't buy the DVD nor the bluray![]()
Feeling tired? There's a nap for that.
