These are pre-disc era classics, adinden... read the first post.
Almost every one of your listed games are current generation.

best top 10 ever! It's a really tough one, though, and I'll include only RPGs and strategy games as I think I wouldn't be able to choose fairly among all the great games I played in snes, genesis etc.

    10. Landstalker
    9. Pokemon Yellow (c'mon, it's a rpg!)
    8. Shining Force I
    7. Phantasy Star II
    6. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
    5. Super Mario RPG
    4. Breath of Fire II
    3. Chrono Trigger
    2. Shining Force II
    1. Phantasy Star IV

Ultima VIII: Pagan is a close close runner-up. Somebody mentioned the Wild Arms series. I thought I was one of the few who liked it, but now I know I'm not alone. Wild Arms 2 is superb, I miss it a lot =(

Phantasy Star IV was great... and theres nothing wrong with the Pokemon games... we've all played them, I'm sure, though I would place either Red or Blue above Yellow, becasue that gorram Pikachu is annoying as hell. Heh, actually, whenever an annoying character that keeps getting talked to unintentionally shows up in a game, I curse Pikachu. For example, whenever I'd accidentally talk to a party member in Dragon Age, I would curse that damn yellow mouse.

Hahahahaha, that's true. It's amazing how these old games set up concepts that are still used nowadays under different manners.
Some things I forgot to mention:
Final Fantasy IV would have been in that list if I had remembered it at the time I picked my top 10 =( Now I just don't know which game to pull out (is this the correct phrasal verb?).
Final Fantasy VI and A Link to the Past are two fantastic games which would have made it into my list if I had played them, but unfortunately I never had the chance =/
