    Mesmer and .........

So I've been reading the Guild Wars Novels in preparation for Guild Wars 2 and I noticed that after the second novel was released, the Guardian class was released. Furthermore, all of the professions that are found in the novels will be found in GW2 (so far as i can tell). Also, you can see 8 character "positions" on the "professions" page on the GW2 website and there are only TWO "positions" that are not filled in.

SO, I figure that one of them will be a Mesmer because Queen Jennah is a Mesmer in the 2nd Guild Wars novel, but I can't guess what the 8th and final profession will be. Judging from the empty (greyed) character position on the GW2 website, I can tell it is a Charr, but a Charr "what"????

    Zen,

I agree partially with you, since Queen Jennah is called a Mesmer but Logan was never called a "Guardian", but his skills sure do show it- so there is a trick in there, did you noticed? I think that we will have Mesmers, or at least called Mesmers but with lots of changes from the original one.

The last position is argumented to be a Gunner, Pirate, Scout etc. It is a class specialized in guns. From the grayed figure you can see a Charr with the right arm crossing his chest, wielding a 3-barrel pistol.

This is not confirmed, just rumors.

He actually was reffered to as a Guardian a few times, but rarely. Whether or not they meant "Guardian" in the broad sense of someone who protects others or as in a class is up in the air for debate. Mesmers are 99.9% confirmed, but there is that small snowball's chance in hell that it'll be dropped (until we get a straight "Mesmers will be playable" response from Anet, we should keep an open mind for all possibilities.... Even if unlikely).

Adding onto the above list, the next class could also be some sort of Engineer as Centaur originally speculated (Which would indeed have access to many guns, if common sense is anything to go by).

Well, what we know for sure (from statements from developers) is:

    * "There is one brand new profession and one returning profession yet to be revealed." (Eric Flannum)
    * There will be a profession that uses guns, but not bows (Warrior and Thief are able to use both)
    * There will be a profession that is "built heavily around the concept of environmental weapons"
    * There will not be a profession named "Gunner"
    * Jeff Grubb promises that "People who play a ritualist or a mesmer or a necromancer or any of the old, old characters, will feel like they have a home somewhere in Guild Wars 2."
    * Jon Peters has said, about the Mesmer:
"The people expect a lot and we know that many enjoy mind tricks and aspects like that. And we'll quite certainly not disappoint those people."

Right now, neither the Mesmer nor the Ritualist have a home. Given all the hints we've received, and the appearance of the Mesmer in the novels, I think it's safe to assume that the Mesmer will indeed be the returning profession... but Bahayur is right, they will probably make some major changes to the Mesmer compared to GW1, so it will be a surprise what the new Mesmer plays like.

As for the new one, well, as I described in my original engineer post, the ritualist was designed to be guild wars' version of the engineer, as we didn't have guns in GW1. Now that we do, there is no reason for the devs not to create the profession they originally wanted to make... the engineer (and that would fulfil their promise for a 'home' for the ritualist). I'm not sure it will actually be called that, and I have even less of an idea how exactly the mechanics of the environmental weapons will work (creating turrets out of thin air would be a bit strange), but given the list I gave above, this would be my guess.

A bit of news: several people who attended the RPC 2011 in Germany (this weekend) have posted notes stating that Martin Kerstein (GW2 community manager) has mentioned there that the next profession reveal will be this month (May).
So before the end of the month, we should know at least one of the two remaining professions.

Seriously, how do you constantly keep on top of all the news

I can't wait for the profession reveal, I think I would actually prefer the Mesmer reveal (yes, assuming Mesmer will be released, I wasn't trying to say they're not coming, just that Anet hasn't yet been 100% explicit about them) over the unknown release. I'm busting to know both, but as a huge Mesmer fan in GW1 (Just made a 5-mes team build of heroes. The damage and shutdown is hilariously good ) I can't wait to see what they've done - I don't have an idea for the life of me on how they can make Mesmers work with GW2's mechanics/nature.

Thank god for Google. Search for "guild wars", then select "latest" or "past 24 hours" and you usually get the most relevant updates of the past 24 hours.

As for the mesmer... I think it is the most likely reveal of the two, seeing how many hints they've already thrown around. Well, that is, assuming they've finished all the game mechanics, and are now happy with the results.

Yeah Centaur, I agree with every bit.

They will probably leave the most relovutionary profession for last, and Mesmer is like an 100% guarantee.

    Agreed, Baha and Centaur.
I love profession reveals and, as much as I want to know all the professions available for GW2, I think I'll miss that old anticipation and not knowing if the next profession reveal will be next week or in the next 2 months, and the feeling that goes with it when it's finally revealed.

Eh, I sort of thought Ritualists got sucked into the Guardian profession.
