ANet makes game account protection announcement

With the rise of companies and fansites getting hacked, ANet made the following announcement a few minutes ago:

Password theft is on the rise, and we are aware of recent attacks on Guild Wars fansite forums. Your Guild Wars game account is in jeopardy if you use the same password for your game account that you use for a Guild Wars fansite forum or any other external site.

If you used your Guild Wars game password on any site, we advise you to change your Guild Wars game account password immediately.

Please keep in mind that you should always use unique, complex passwords for each of your Internet activities. For more information about keeping your account safe, read our Account Security Tips here on the Guild Wars Support Forums.

Seems Anet have been ramping account security lately, with the "enter a name of one of your characters" thing. It's good they make these PSAs for passwords - not many people realise how easy it is to guess people's passwords (using the same password for everything is even worse).

If I had to offer one tip for good passwords, use pass phrases. For example, everyone knows the saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", so make it an acronym and use it as a password "Aaadktda". Near-unguessable even by computers designed for guessing passwords and it's easy to remember
