On another board I frequent, I've heard a lot of pissing and moaning about the downed state in sPvP (and only in sPvP). Can anybody tell me exactly why it's a bad thing in that part of the game?

I believe it's because the downed state - allegedly - makes it particularly difficult to win in a 1v2 or 1v3 situation, and those situations are most likely to occur in sPvP.
From what I understand its people who've not been able to wrap their heads around the downed state in general who are complaining about downed state. IMO it adds an additional element to the match that has to be accounted for and planned for - its really not that tough.
its the people who cant finish what they started lol. dont mind them.
Thiefs can be tricky in downed state and I could see why people would prefer pvp with no downed state but honestly, it's what makes GW2 and people will complain about something else if they fixed it.
@OP:
Competetive players like clear indications of who is better. SPVP is mainly aimed at competetive players. Am I right so far, people? Now, the downed state kinda removes the clear indicator of who won. It extends the fight and some people don't like it. When they get your HP down, they want to be declared the winner. They haven't understood that they actively need to "FINISH HIM!" (lol I love the downed state). That's why they complain.
Also, some classes have annoying downed skills. I've seen a thief port away from his position 3-4 times or so, everytime foiling a stomp. And I've seen guardians knock people back while stomping, also making him survive a lot longer.
There are people who are so narrow minded, that they only try to stomp. They haven't yet realised that you can actually just remove the remaining HP again to kill someone downed for good. Once they realise that, a lot of the moaning will be gone, too.![]()
