    Prophecies - Frost Gate

Ok, more of a request for a walkthrough.

How the @#$(*&4 is this mission even possible? Its made me quit this game for months at a time like 6 times now.
I'm level 12. I can only take level 8 cabbages, I mean hirelings, with me.
I'm good until I have to fight 2 of the 'heals others' wooly mammoth rider dudes at once. Then I get stomped.
Sadly, the optional portion (which is early on) requires this. And scewy pulls can mean its 3 at once. And the rest of the mission will probably throw this in one way or another (generally after the gate lever part).

Do I need to l2play, or is this just how the game goes?

It's honestly been way too long since I've done that at-level to analyze your strategy, lol. Which cabbages are you taking and what are you using yourself?

I will happily hop on my ele and help you through it if you see me online. I usually play during daytime EST...my toon is in my signature. I will be far overleveled, though, I don't know if that bothers you or if you just want to get it done at this point

Yes, at that level, taking on 2 or 3 Dolyak Riders at once (for the bonus part) can be tough. Don't move in full force, and try to pull a small group away from the rest (as far as they will follow). Then take out the Dolyak Rider first. Inflicting conditions (poison, bleeding, deep wound) on the Riders should help there. Take care not to inflict these conditions on the Stone Summit Howlers, though, as they will bounce them right back onto you!

Alternatively, you could leave the bonus alone for now, and just try to complete the mission without it. You can always come back at a later time (when you're a bit higher level) and do the bonus then.

Like Ruse, I could help you finish this mission, if you want... but my party will be equally overpowered for this mission.

I totally agrree about the Dolyaks. They are extremely annoying in large numbers, and their elite in hard mode makes them even more annoying...

I think I did that quest with a bunch of other people way back when so can't really remember how I did it. I have a ranger of about that level somewhere in Prophecies (not sure where though, haven't played it in a while) but I also have an overpowered ele that can help out (with nice heroes), so if you just want ot get past it I could help if you see me online (mostly evenings GMT), "Lady Winterbay" is my main.

Edit: The wiki has the following to say on skills to bring, which may or may not be useful for you

    • Dolyak Riders can remove hexes, but not conditions; however, Stone Summit Howlers have Plague Touch, so avoid inflicting conditions on the Howlers.
    • In Hard mode, enchantment removal skills should prove invaluable by stripping the Dolyak Riders of their Mark of Protection enchantment. Skills that inflict the dazed condition will help in interrupting and preventing the Dolyak Riders from casting Mark of Protection.
    • Avoid using enchantment-based builds, since Stone Summit Howlers and Stone Summit Sages can remove enchantments.

Dazing the dolyaks is probably a good idea..

Daze could be difficult if it's a new character made in proph and you don't want to run ahead in the game to cap skills. Concussion shot, Broad head arrow, Spear swipe (I think that's the name - the paragon melee skill), fevered dreams, Headbutt+Plague Touch all could do the job (doubt any will be available).
Realisticly, I think the best thing to do skill-wise would be having a mesmer with Backfire and some cover hexes as well as some interruption for the anti hex (you won't be able to interrupt both of their hex removal, so you'll probably need both the cover and interrupt). It'd be tricky to pull off, and at the end of the day damage, damage and more damage is what gets you through fights like that. Hexing/dazing just gives you a bigger window of opportunity to get the damage in.

Other than that, I can only think of two other things to say, pull enemies away with a long bow or come back later as a more powerful char. Bonus objectives are really not that great reward-wise in prophecies, so you wouldn't be missing much. Personally I probably had over 500 hours gametime before I even bothered to try the Frost Gate bonus, lol.

Edit: Had a look at Dolyak rider builds on the wiki to remind myself what they have. Since they have Strength of Honor and Heal Other as well as no energy management, energy denial could also work on them if you're really struggling (try "Fear Me!", Chaos storm, Energy burn, Energy tap/feast, power leak and/or debilitating shot. Shame should be twice as effective as it will prevent hex removal/healing, give you energy and take away a lot of theirs).

Wait a second... why don't you just do the mission without the bonus and rush over the bridge that is being hit by siege weaponry, properly timed microing can get you and henchmen almost unharmed to the other side where you will have to fight as soon as you get there but it's just 1 dolyak in that group. You can come back later at higher level to get the bonus.

Second option is that someone boosts you through the mission, I can log on some time if you want, just tell me when you're going to play.

Uh... I've just read the rest of the posts here and saw that people already said what I said here xD... but I'll just let it be. Also, what's your profession? Interrupts can prove invaluable there, especially disrupting chop and distracting shot.

    I'm necro/mesmer.
Thanks for the tips guys. I really wanna make even a half assed effort towards the HoM, but can't even level at this rate!

Well, for the record, even if you half-ass the mission (IE, no bonus) and go back when you're higher level...you don't have to finish the whole mission again to get credit for the bonus. Just do the bonus part. I don't know if that changes your outlook at all.

Also, of the cabbages available at that level, I remember Reyna irritating me the least. She does spread conditions effectively (though there is the danger that they get passed back to you) and she actually has decent survivability. She was usually on my team.

    Whos Reyna?
As far as I know, I have access to 8 different henchmen who are 4 levels too low for the content I'm in.

Looking at the wikipage for the forst gate Reyna appears to be the local ranger hero.
