Nerd Overload: I named all of my Guild Wars 2 characters

Hey everyone. First, let me say I am new to the Guildwars2forum community.

I know this thread has been somewhat done before on "what will you name your character", but I took it a step further. I went and through of names for all 8 of my characters I will make.(1 for each prof.) Any of them with a surname, I went and reserved in GW1 and I hope to get the single word names when GW2 releases.

I want to know if any of you did this with your characters... Names are very important to me when I play games. So each of my names i took a good amount of time researching and thinking on what I wanted my characters to name and how it would represent my chatacter's Race/Class/Personality/Story.

I want to go really in depth on my characters and their names, so incoming wall of text. So without further adieu, here they are:

1. Human Mesmer – Yuko Shirotashi - The name of my main character in Guild Wars 1. Although Yuko was an elementalist in GW1, her descendent will be a Mesmer following the God of Lyssa.
I wanted her to be Human obviously so it would make sense.
This will not be my main in GW2 but the name is very special to me after playing Yuko for 5 years in GW1.
This was my first character in Factions and the name I honestly just made up without any research (without even knowing Shiro was the final boss). It was funny because I looked at Factions and thought it would be a very Asian themed game so I named my character Yuko... She will be an extremely Dignified Noble that does not care for the street rats in the city. She is above them all and very snotty.

2. Female Sylvari Elementalist – Galaier - Now... I'm not too sure on this name yet. This will be my main in Guild Wars 2 as I LOVE sylvari and I love ele's. She will be very charming and a mix of ferocity and dignity. She will either be scholar(Dusk) or an explorer(Dawn). For this name, I went onto a Irish translator seeing as a lot of the Sylvari names have Irish roots.
I combines the words Gale and Air to make this name as I will most likely be an Air Elementalist. I also like fire though, but couldnt think of any good names. I just dont know if I can get used to the name, let alone exactly how I want to pronounce it. Since this is my main, it will be the hardest for me to decide...
Another name I could choose is Moongladis which was the name of my druid, my main, in WoW but it could work here seeing as I could be a Sylvari of Dusk. What do you guys think? This is the one I need the most help with xD

3. Female Syvlari Necromancer - Lady Bloodshot - I actually found this in a random Fantasy name genrator... It really popped out at me for some reason. I always see my Necros as cruel and senseless, just searching for blood and death. I dont know if they mentioned it, but I hope I can become part of the Nightmare court.. As for personality, her will be a good mix of Dignity and Feroicity while not being charming at all...

4. Female Norn Ranger – Jora Shadowhunter - This is one of my least unique names but also one of my favorites surprisingly. Jora, the norn warrior hero, was by far my favorite hero in GW1.
Then there is Sif Shadowhunter, who was a famous norn hunter NPC. I simply combined the names, but I still really like the name and I will love playing my Norn ranger with her pet Bear Bjorn, which means Bear.
If I somehow think a way to make it more unique, I might change it, but I really love the 2 characters and can make it be like their Decendents. Personality wise, she will be my most balanced and very in tune with nature/her pets.

5. Male Norn Guardian – Falkor the Protector - I actually really like this name for my Guardian. I am going to make him as much support/tanky as possible even going against the "no tanks" because I love leading the group as a tank running in first.
Urd literally translates into Bear in Old Norse where almost all Norn names come from. "the Protector" is just the nickname that some Norn get liek Magni the Bison.
I will make some story how Urd got his title by protecting someone or something very important. This will be my mix of Dignity and Charm with no ferocity in him at all. I want to be as support as possible. If I can choose between doing an errand and killing mobs, I will always choose the errand on him.

6. Male Charr Warrior – Grom Bloodfang
7. Male Charr Engineer – Skint Steelclaw - I will combine these 2 names into 1 paragraph seeing as they are fairly simple. The first names I just took from random Charr NPCs that I like the names. Grom for the warrior and Skint for the engineer. I feel they fit fairly well.
As for the surname, the first half of it belongs to their Warband. The warrior to the Blood band and the engineer to the Iron warband. THen I just random attributes they will focus on. Fangs and Claws are always good.
Both of my charr will have a similiar personality... Ferocious mainly. They will attack anything and everything. Full feriocious Charr ready to kill.The warrior will be a bit more charming while the engineer will be a bit more dignified.

8. Male Asuran Thief - Sett - Down to my little thief. I always love melee little guys doing flips and cool tricks. Now this name does not have much to do with Asuran lore other than the 1 syllable, double consonant you see in many Asurans.
Thats really all I could go with. Now as I chose it, this name is most similiar to my real name Seth.... I feel that if I was ever in a world like Tyria, I would be a thief and only sneak up and attack if I really needed to fight.
He will be very cunning, secretive, and independent. A good mix of the 3 personality types. Prolly a bit more of Dignity since Asurans have big ego's... His main motto will be "I can sneak up on anybody and everybody... especially those dimwit Humans!"


Wow, I can't believe I had that much to say about my characters. This is probably the nerdiest thing I have done and I am very proud of it ^.^

I hope you guys will share in my nerdiness and share your character names, stories, and personality. So please share and I hope you will enjoy my characters.

P.S. I happen to have a weird thing when making my characters... I make all my melee/fighters Male and all my ranged/casters female. Does anyone else do this? I am always called weird for doing it by my friends :P

First off: we're NOT the Guildwars2guru community! If that's what you're looking for, then you're on the wrong forum. But I'm hoping that was just a small mistake on your part, and that you actually wanted to be here... in which case I'd love to welcome you to our friendly community.

I have to say, you definitely spent a lot of time working out the details of your characters. Have you played GW1 before and used any of those character names there? Because for your sake I hope you'll manage to get all these names, but if any are already taken, then please keep in mind that you may have to pick different names...

As for your division of male/female... no, I can't say I do, but we all have our own little peculiarities...

[Edit] and I hope we get enough character slots by default for that list... or you may have to purchase a few additional ones...

I generally make all characters I care about in any way female and the rest/throwaways male. I don't know why either

Interesting names, but to your 5th Character you named him partly "Urd" which is a Norn in the nordic mythology and all norn are females there. So I have 2 indeas of naming a male Urd: Either you wanted him to have a female name to make him sound gay or you didn't know that Urd was a female name.

Right now, I only plan 2 Characters:
Ramoth
Kuuko

If one of them is taken I'll name one Kurohana.
If all 3 are taken (what I do not believe) I'll invent something new.

I didn't decide which Name is gonna be which proffession and race. But I can say one will be a female Human or Sylvari Guardian and the other one a female Human or Sylvari Thief.

Nice list! I particularly like the name you picked for your Asura. Sett seems like a really fitting name for an Asura thief. I hope they give us at least five character slots, one for each race. Ten would be best but that would be a stretch. I'm sure more slots will be purchasable through the store and they may also add more slots with updates.

I haven't really though through my character names other than my main which is Izzy Katsu. I need to come up with a good human mesmer name for my secondary character.

I guess it could work since he can be like Warwick with the skin... :P Yes, that's the game thats keeping me sane until GW2 comes out... or until I get dragged back into WoW.

I was actually thinking of naming him Udyr too...

You could also name him Nidhoggr, but I think that's some spooky ship in the nordic mythology.

I like your Asura name Sett, for some reason I like the short 1 syllable names on them. I'm thinking about naming my alt Asura Puc or some variation if it's taken.
