    Chapter One - Rocket Boots

"You can't do it. It's impossible. Just put it down and get some sleep" Aranas jabbed at his friend, while checking his reflection on the inside of his armor before bed.

"Anything can be done with asuran will…anything" Cronix said, peering seriously towards his friend.

Cronix continued to sharpen his blade, eyeing the tied up skritt hanging near him. They had captured it earlier in the evening, and hung it up off a nearby tree to save for the morning. A wager had been made that Cronix couldn't jump up and slice the head off its neck. The creature was resting nearly eight feet in the air.

His companion's snoring fell deaf on Cronix's ears, as he was deep in thought. Trying to devise a solution for retrieving the skritt's head, by only leaping in the air. After a few more strokes with his flint stone, he looked down the edge of the blade to admire his work.

While peering down his sword, he noticed his rarely used blasting rod creeping out of the edge of his bag. Quickly, a grin spread across his face; brought upon by a moment of great inspiration. Not even thinking about the money he would win, Cronix knew how to bring the skritt's head to the ground.

"Silly bookah", whispering as he jumped from his seat, making his way towards the backpack.

    ------------------

Mornings had never been kind to Aranas; one of the many sacrifices one must make while questing for glory. If it were up to him, journeys could be made after waking up at noon and enjoying a hearty meal before traversing. Unfortunately, today's menu featured a scraggly looking skritt.

His eyes continued to adjust as he sat up, looking for his traveling companion. He was already pleased with himself this morning, due to the guaranteed bet he had made with Cronix the night prior. He just hoped the silly mouse hadn't run off.

Looking up towards the skritt, still hanging from the tree, he let out a celebratory laugh.

"My friend, our meal still hangs. You should know better than to make a bet with the amazing -- "

Before his own name could escape his lips, Aranas heard a loud pop from behind him. Turning around in surprise, he saw a grey flash soar over his head. He turned around to follow it, watching Cronix leap mightily through the air, with his sword drawn. Aranas let out a smile, watching as his friend's blade passed easily through the skritt's neck. The head hit the ground with a soft thud.

Cronix landed a few feet in front of the tree, coming down hard. He stumbled forward a bit from the jarring landing, realizing in the moment he had forgotten to develop a safe landing procedure. He tripped over a root, flipped over and fell on his back.

Looking up, he saw Aranas reaching a hand down. He grabbed it, and pulled himself up. Smiling up at his overconfident friend.

Aranas noticed two protrusions hanging from Cronix's boots.

    "Jumping boots -- you cheater"

Cronix looked up, with a cocky grin on his face, "Ah, should have set better parameters for our bet. Never let an asura use his mechanical skills."

Aranas let out a heavy sigh, always hating it when his friend was right. Unfortunately, this was most often the occurrence.

"Well, use your damn rocket boots to get back up there and cut the thing down. My stomach calls to me."

"Your stomach always calls to you, it's one of the two organs you listen to. Neither of which rest in your head."

Aranas laughed heartily at his friend's chiding, never letting it get to him, "It's because they are the most powerful!"

Cronix let out a rare laugh; his companion was one of the few bookahs in the world that could bring it out of him.

"Damn fool, let's get to breakfast. Need to reach the dragon eggs before night fall. Wasted enough time as is."

Aranas switched from a humorous tone, to feeling inspired. He walked over to the lifeless skritt, picking it up with one hand and tossing it over towards the fire pit they constructed the night prior.

"Ah, yes my friend. Glory awaits us today, and afterwards women, wine and gold!"

Cronix walked over towards the fire, laughing at his friend's zealous nature. While he'd never admit it openly, he always enjoyed Aranas' boisterous personality and confidence. He just hoped the dragons guarding their sought after prize would fall to it; more importantly, his blade.

lol... great story. Looking forward to the next installment already. And from the looks of it, you'll need to buy 2 accounts for GW2, so you can actually have this duo play together.
